This is NOT the car to get if you are concerned with fuel economy. I have been told that the mileage improves somewhat as the car ages, but I have only had my car barely 2 months. I get about 10mpg (city) and 15-16mpg (highway).
I knew that I would see poor mileage before I got the car, but the biggest problem is how often you will have to stop for gas. The gas tank is only marginally larger than the tank in my old E90 330i (18.5 gal vs 16.9 gal). My E90 used to get at least 225-250 miles per tank in the city and over 400 miles per tank on the highway. Now I get maybe 150 miles per tank in the city. The low fuel warning comes on when the range drops to 50 miles or less, which means that now I see that light coming on at a 1/4 tank! My advice is to just press the "M" button and forget about the frequent gas stops
