Rolling Car Shots

The Sticky for the Tutorial, has a link to take rolling or moving car shots, but that link is down.

So, anybody here have some tips to get a good rolling car shot? I'm just getting started in photography. I have a Nikon D5000 with the standard kit lens (Nikkor AF-S, DX 18-55 mm, f3.5-5.6). I also have a Nikkor AF-S, DX 35 mm f1.8 lens as well.

Are the best results achieved by havng the camera be in a moving car as well and staying in front of the subject car? If so, what speed should the cars be moving? What f-stop or shutter speed should I be at?

I've only done rolling shots like 2-3 times before but I found that the speed really doesn't matter as long as its over 20-30mph... faster will look smoother though.

I shot at 1/125 shutter priority normally, tried a few at 1/60 also and that worked ok too.

I'd say its best if you can have a chase car that you can hang out the back of, something with a rear glass that opens would be perfect. You can also just hang out the passenger window if you want but its a little harder to do.

Just make sure no matter what speed you're at, you try to stay consistent with the other car. Like I said, I've done 65mph on a highway and also 25mph in a parking garage, both with pretty favorable results. The lens you have should work perfectly.
