How do you guys shrink your photos?

I have a couple of shots that would make a nice avatar but I can't for the life of me seem to be able to shrink it below 10k in size. How do you guys do it? I have photoshop.

id ont have photoshop, but i can do it in the microsoft photo editor. all you have to do is open the file, and go to resize image. make sure the option is set at pixel not inches. then do 100 pixel x 100 pixel. then you should be able to use what ever picture in your aviator. i think if you change the width or the height of picture to 100 pixel the other size will change with it.

Unfortunately I don't have MS photo editor, I tried to resize with both paint and photoshop and shrunk the photos below 100x100 pixels but the size won't drop below 10k no matter what I do.

In photoshop, save as a .jpeg. Click: file>save as>(type file name)>save. In the quality box, move the slider to 0-3 for low quality. You probably won't get any pic smaller than 10k, though, unless the picture is like less than 200x200 pixels.

If you tried this already, what file type are you saving as... .jpeg, .gif, .bmp, etc?

I just did it again, took a 1280x960 photo, shrunk it to 100x75, saved as JPEG with quality setting at 3, the file size is 28kb. I believe I've used quality setting 0 before and the file was still pretty big.

Try this, it works for me:
1. Take the picture, then shrink in whatever program (doesn't matter)
2. Take a screenshot of the picture, then paste that whole thing into MS Paint
3. Crop the part you want, and paste it in a new file in MS Paint
4. Save it as a .jpeg

This usually shrinks the size to around 8kb for the size you want.

Thank you so much! Haven't had a screen cap software for a long time so I was gonna download one later. If you could resize these two pics for me it'd be great:

Thanks again!

IF you run Windows XP, there is a power toy available for download at microsoft.com IT's a handy tool for resizing. Just right click on the file, select the resolution you want, and done.
