cmyx6go , I'm glad you're ok!! Sudden weather changes can be scary AND UBER Dangerous!

I don't know if you did this but I highly recommend putting on your hazards as soon as you see any road anomaly and give a medium-hard brake to give yourself distance to what's in front while managing and warning the traffic behind. Whenever I've had passengers and something like this occurs and I react as described above they always tell me that they will adopt the practice. I've been doing it since someone plowed into the back of me in traffic years ago and except for a texting idiot plowing into the back of the i8, it's always worked.

Cheers-mk
I won't drive with my hazards on. I have flipped them on, on occasion, if say traffic suddenly came to an abrupt stop and I was the last car in line to warn the next guy. This morning, both hands were glued to the steering wheel.

I only do this as a warning. I don't drive with them on.

I hate seeing idiots driving in rain storms with no lights on at all. It really burned me when I was driving a truck while I was in college. Idiots never stop think that the driver of the truck they're passing can't see them in the mist even in medium rain. If your wipers are on, your lights should be as well.

It's like someone dropped a dark grey sheet from the sky to the floor. I can't even see the tail lights of the car ahead of me, I can't see the road, the lines, or any shapes that are cars around me. Now I'm flipping, my brain scrambling to reconstruct the visual of what's around me. The car that was 3 lengths ahead. The yahoo in the pick up truck flying past on my left. How many car lengths behind me was the next car. The tractor trailers to my right.

I nail the brakes and come to almost a complete stop, then realize that's not the best idea. If I can't see the guy ahead, the guy behind can't see me. I felt like I drove under Niagara Freakin falls. Windshield wipers are doing nothing. But I must proceed, so on the gas I go. It was like driving with my eyes closed. It must have lasted 10 seconds.

Wow.
Twice this year I have had almost no visibility with wipers on maximum. I have never seen rain and hail like this in all my life and the flash flooding also.

Glad you made it through that one. Those are scary. Similar situation happened to me a couple months ago in south Georgia in my Mini. Worst I've ever experienced. Just about came to a complete stop and the car was rotating. Came to find out I drove through a tornado on I-75S. What?? How??

Another torrential downpour on ride home. Not as bad but everything flooded. And now I have no power. I knew I should have installed the generator before we moved in. Sitting in car charging phone. FML.

Yup. I was at an autocross in Orlando one day, when the afternoon storms rolled in. I was staying in Daytona, so I tossed my street tires into the trunk and headed east on I-4...with the slicks on...figuring that I could get ahead of the storm in 5 miles and change them off in the dry. No such luck, and I-4 looked like a Venice canal around Lake Monroe due to bad drainage and lack of an adequate asphalt crown! That cloud followed me all the way back to Daytona, and coincidentally it stopped raining about 30 seconds after I got soaked running from the driveway to the front door of the house.

On the bright side, all of that rain on the roads probably saved a heat cycle on the slicks' rubber compound.

The most intense rain that I ever drove through was here in NY State back in May, 2018. I had just merged onto the interstate after leaving work to go home, and the sky opened up so bad that people were stopping in the driving lanes. Turns out that a tornado was passing by, obscured by the rain. It hit where I work, and killed someone else who was pulling out of the parking lot.....

And worse, they sit at your rear wheels in the spray. Come on people, either hang back or pass. It drives me crazy. I run trucks. Driver's education should really focus on sharing the road with trucks.

It's tough. I'm glad you're ok because water is deceptively dangerous. I had a friend who was swept away in a flash flood and killed a few years ago. Terrible. Always take it seriously!!

As we can't handle snow down here, most places can't handle the volume of water we get. That's what I get for living in a sub-tropical area!

Had that happen a few years back. Some scary shit. The next scariest shit I ever saw was a semi over passing vehicles in a snow storm and threw all the snow up like a big freakin wave which literally blocked out any visibility at all.

As primarily a sports/GT car driver, I am NOT a fan of 18-wheeler drivers AT ALL. Though I shouldn't over generalize, I think they are some of the biggest jerks on the road.

The worst I've ever experienced was climbing the mountains in the Tennessee/Kentucky area in the i8. I was in the fast lane passing a line of cars and as I approached the semi, the driver just jerked the vehicle into my lane causing me to to do an ABS slow-down. There was no vehicle in front of him. He was smiling after I passed. My gf, who always though I was over-reacting to the bad driving of the semi's changed her tune at that point. She admitted that they were just f'n with me because they could.

Not a fan.

Cheers-mk

That's not fair. I run trucks for a living. There are professional drivers and there are assholes. Obviously, the guy you encountered in the mountains was an asshole. A few bad apples give them all a bad reputation.

I fully understand and appreciate what you're saying. I'm just giving you an example of my experiences having driven sports cars for almost 40 years.

I similarly think most people with a personal drivers license are unqualified to operate a motor vehicle. In my 6 mile commute to work to the office this morning in mile 2 on a 6 lane state road, a white Suburban, in the center lane, drifted into my lane forcing me almost to the curb because the driver was talking to their friend. Said driver overcorrected when I blew my horn and jerked into the lane on the other side. Unqualified driver.

I'm glad you're ok in the flooding. We just got a warning of heavy rains for the afternoon today which, hopefully, will cool down our expected triple-digit temperatures (w/heat index). Summer in South Louisiana. Gotta love it!

Cheers-mk

Add to the unqualified, most have no sense of sharing the road with a big truck. We have cameras in all our trucks. We get all kinds of calls about your driver did this, your driver cut me off, your driver hit me. OK, so let's go to the video.... It is absolutely amazing the things we are now able to squash where previously insurance would settle. It cracks me up when my claims person runs the video, and tells the caller according to the video you did X, Y and Z. They hang up soooo fast.
