Desiring to watch another debate with mkoesel on whether BMW would do its own version of the G/J29 Coupé?

G42 is basically G29 with a bit from the 8er stuck in between the b pillar support and rear bulkhead for the back seats.

Seems like a lot of extra effort for BMW to put this extra camo on the trunk lid to hide a portion (roughly a third) of the taillights.

We'll see how this turns out. I'm hoping it's similar to the e92 where part of the taillight is on the trunk lid itself.

It's not even 1/3. The taillights are not separated at the bootlid in homage to it's 1er and 2er predecessors or due to the shared structure with the Z4...Dealer's Choice.

I am still feeling good about the G42 Coupe. I think it is going to be a winner. BMW's competitors seem to be leaving this class alone. (RWD Architecture and smaller than A5, C Class Coupe, 4 Series)

No, it's actually the 3/4 Series interior(at this stage). Maybe due to using the same platform and not that of 1 Series/2 Series GC. Different HVAC positioning, etc.

I hope it did not seem like an 'argument' . . . if I were 100% certain I might 'argue' a little more.

Lem could be correct, however, I do not currently see what he is seeing. Time will tell and I will acknowledge Len's insight if his perspective prevails.

I tend to agree with you, but I did say “I’m hoping.”

I didn’t intend my post to come across as the two of you were fighting by using the word “argument” in my post. Rather I meant it as you and Lem were trying to state your opinion based on the images and facts we have.

And you’re correct, time will answer all our questions!

Seems more 3/4 series to me as well.
The console comes up to meet the Center stack, and appears to have a cover, GC does not have this design.

I'm having flashbacks to the F22 test mule sightings, I remember saying I couldn't wait to see "the rest" of the F22 tail light when the camo on the trunk lid comes off...well imagine my surprise when the final vehicle was revealed and there was no more tail light on the trunk lid.

I still think that was a poor choice, F22 is a fine looking car but would have been better from the rear if its tail lights didn't have so much space on the trunk lid separating them, IMO. The F87 M2 is better but on the non-M 2 series, it still looks odd to me to this day.

Or a G87 M2.

Hopefully Bmw keep true to their heritage design language that their cars have previously been so recognisable for. I hope they don't over style the exterior like the G82.

Yep,regular 2 series has square gas cap and M2 has the round one.I remember back when the first M2 spy pics were posted.Everyone was very happy to see the round gas cap design.Hopefully the G87 will also have the round gas cap.

That pic along with the info from lemetier confirms that the BMW in the elevator is the new 2 series.

In reviewing the leaked photos - if in fact the next 2-series - I still could not reconcile how the 'gap' existed between the taillight and trunk line if the taillight extended into the trunk line (e.g., as with the F87)?

You suggested there was a camo plate over the inner third, which simply did not make sense to me. I now realize there was not only a camo plate over the inner third, but another camo plate over the outer two-thirds. . . giving that 'gap' appearance.

I have no idea why BMW would go to such extremes to hide a taillight, but is appears they did.

So does that mean no trim pieces in the interior? Just that stupid light-up plastic trim?

I don't want to see a single thing from that turd GC in the 2 coupe.

Tempted to order a 2021 230i to keep the traditional dashboard and give Mexico a year or two to get more polished at production.

It’s that or drive my 2017 230i (67K miles) to about 100K miles and then get a 2023 model. A bit concerned about increasing maintenance costs though the current car drives perfectly now.

Stocks of 230i coupes seem very limited in the US. I’d almost certainly need to build one.

Honestly have you seen it. I've experienced both and have the 135i and it's better than the overdone Christmas tree lights emitting from the bottom edge of the trim. Actually integrated all the way throughout the trim is excellent and I hope the future.

Yes I have. I like real materials: e.g. wood, aluminum, carbon. Some gimmicky plastic does not belong in a luxury branded car.

Read that the 230 won't get the 48v mild hybrid system. Wonder why? Is it that the fuel economy is respectable enough whereas the 240,etc. needs the help?
