Rolling Loud Music Festival Miami

How many people are familiar with the Rolling Loud music festival down in Miami? It is basically one of the largest hip hop festivals in the nation and it happened just last weekend. I love hip hop and rap and live in the area and followed the event closely. It was basically a shit show of unknown proportions... here is a slight summary of the weekend's events;

1) kodak black gets arrested on weapons charges before the event and doesn't perform

2) lil wayne refuses to perform because he refused to be checked by security and cancels his show

3) travis scott's show had technical issues and was cut short

4) young thug was so mollied out that people barely understood what he was saying

5) NBAyoungboy got shot at in the middle of north miami beach resulting in 1 dead and 2 shot

6) Rapper Hellabandz got shot dead on south beach on Friday

7) 2 different stampedes resulting in people getting trampled

8) apparently a number of performances were borderline pathetic showing almost no effort from the artists

Sounds like 8 reasons listed why it was better to go to Epicenter in Rockingham this weekend. And all we missed was Tool playing songs from their new album

But I like the guys listed 1 through 4. So I would have been pissed...

Maybe it won’t go back to Miami, like Ultra. That would be progress for Miami.

I don't think the problem is the party culture or wild happenings all the time... if you think about it; that's what Miami was built on... The NIMBYs don't seem to understand that as well as the worldwide attention Miami receives because of these events.

The real issue is the city of Miami's corruption and effectively 0 enforcement of rules, code or laws. If we had a real police force with real police officers and a competent city council that enforced what they should enforce; there honestly would be no issues... you would also virtually have 0 traffic because only <5% of the population could hold a drivers license.

Crap "rap" music anyway. Real Hip Hop is alive and well and this type of shit doesn't happen at those events.

It is because he seems like as terrible of a person as he is a musician.

Never heard of J Cole, never listened to Kendrick Lamar but if they play them on the radio then they are just rap performers and not real hip hop artists

Radio play = not real hip hop artists? That's a very interesting perspective and you clearly know nothing about hip hop. J Cole and Kendrick Lamar are very real hip hop artists.

hmm interesting perspectives... personally i don't like either one... both are certainly not typical mainstream and do have lyrical and writing talent... as far as true non mainstream hip hop; I don't really know anyone outside of the hardcore old school guys that listen to that type of music anymore...

I'm not a big fan of Cole or Kendrick either but they're talented. There's no question about that. It's a new era. I don't see the value in trying to compare. It's like the old school NBA heads who give LeBron James or Kevin Durant shit for not playing in 1986 when basketball was "real". Those guys can hoop, full stop.

I have been listening to rap/hip hop since the 80's. I know a thing or two. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. And this is mine. To me they qualify as rap performers and not hip hop artists. Hip Hop to me are artists like, Jedi Mind Tricks, La Coka Nostra. The High and Mighty, Murs, 9th Wonder, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Vinny Paz, Sage Francis, B.Dolan, Metermaids, Cage & Tame-One (Leak Brothers), The Grouch & Eli, Eyedea & Abilities, Doap Nixon, Copywrite. I can go on if you would like.

I'm highly entertained by the 2 Chainz, Kodak Black, 21 Savage, etc. type tracks these days; partially for casual entertainment purposes, but mostly because I just so happen to like shitty music.

Even still, I can't understand what could possibly draw someone to a live hip-hop performance though; the sound of a guy mumbling over top of his own track, then pumping that noise through nasty distorted speakers does not sound remotely entertaining to me

I agree with you... the music in relation to mumble, trap rap is utterly shitty and offers 0 quality but it does manage to entertain. FWIW, with an unlimited spotify account i get my money's worth... as far as a concert; no idea who would go. It is effectively yelling over playback and autotune... complete waste of $. Back in the day, when I went to a DMX concert; there was a genuinely solid show put on buy a guy that gave it all he got and could rap; these days its a joke.
