Illinois State Police pull over a BMW going 139mph

Yesterday I saw on Facebook the Illinois State Police had a posting with a photo of a Camaro with the radar locked. Posted underneath the following:

You know what’s better than locking in a car’s speed at 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 1️⃣ mph??

Locking in the speed of the car right behind it at 1️⃣ 3️⃣ 9️⃣ mph.

And you know what the best part is??

They both pulled over and got arrested.

Camaro 121 mph
BMW 139 mph

I-90 (Tollway)

www.facebook.com/IllinoisStatePolice/

The person who handles their social media had some BMW trolling fun.

I gotta be honest. If was going 140+ I'd be tempted to ... not notice the police and quickly exit the highway.

Especially in Illinois. I got yanked for 100+ as a teenager and it was very expensive to take care of and they put me on probation for a few years (I didn't even live in Illinois at the time)

In Illinois, 25+ over is reckless driving, and a few years ago was elevated to the same severity as a DUI. Can't imagine this going well.

Guess I'm lucky, got a ticket few years back for 110+ and no jail time or lost license. Cost me a bunch in fines though and a couple points on my driving record.

I got a Mustang one night at 102. He tried to exit but I know Mustang taillights. He was drunk.
The next night I got a Camaro at 109. He also tried to exit but I know Camaros too. He was also drunk.

That was probably over 15 years ago. I don’t think I’ve written a speeder in over ten years now. I do my best to stay off the freeways.

I wonder how many people going that fast and got clocked tried evading the police and actually made it. I’ve tried it once....didn’t make it lolz. I’d only be confident in attempting an evasion on a crotch rocket.

Hard to outrun that radio. In my younger, stupider, wilder days I tried. My brother and I had new Mustangs at the time, his was a red '91 GT and I had a '93 Cobra. Both had police scanners we had installed inside the dash and military walkie-talkies so we could talk to each other.

We thought it was cool to play with the police on the weekends. One of us would do something stupid to get the police chasing him, peel off when he could, then the other would get them to start chasing him. We never got caught playing tag with the police but I got caught drag racing some kid in an IROC.

The judge was about to reduce the charges to speeding because the other guy didn't have a driver's license and I had agreed to loan him the money to get his license back buuuut then it hit him that I might be the Black Mustang that had been tormenting the police for several months. The judge made me put my '93 Cobra up on blocks for a year. Told me if I got caught driving it for a year I'd have to serve time for drag racing, felony evasion, resisting arrest and probably more.

So I did, I put a brand new Mustang up on blocks, right out in front of my apartment. I put the wheels in my livingroom and had the coolest coffee table ever when I put a glass top on it.

Just a dumb kid. Wonder I didn't kill myself or somebody else.

That's how it is in VA. Except, reckless is just 20MPH over. It's also the same severity as a DUI which is ridiculous. If you get pulled over and they give you a reckless, there's no amount you pay. You have to go to court and you better get a lawyer. Ask me how I know?! Oh, and radar detectors are illegal in VA which makes it the last state in the country. Moral of the story: don't ever speed in VA.

its not too hard to outrun them when traffic is light and you know the area. I was on a secluded backroad and was pushing my modded GTR maybe like 6/10ths. crested a hill and saw a cop waiting. I knew he had no chance so I just put my foot down. checked my rear view a mile later and didn't see anything. slammed the brakes and took the next side street off the main road.

No joke. I hate driving in VA. I got a ticket during a visit and had to hire a lawyer when I got back.

Can't even imagine the perspective from the insurance company after learning about 139mph ticket.

When I was around 20 I had a 97 Mazda 626. I passed a trooper in a suv going 115mph on a very dark highway at night.
Didn't even take my foot off the gas. Saw his flashers in my rear view. I shut my lights and floored it till I came upon a pack of cars. Reduced speed, blend in with traffic and turned my lights on. A minute later he flies by us in the left lane flashing away.
What a thrill.

Not the wisest decision to drive that fast, but at times, and in my younger years, could also be faulted for behaving less than responsibly.

Seems like the older I get, the slower I drive.

I pushed my E92 2012 335i to 157mph just one, but it was fine at that speed.

+1. Grew up in Fairfax. Got pulled over doing 93 on a gixxer on Rt.66 West. Cop was super pissed because I only had 1 hand on the handle bar at the time and I had a V1 radar detector built into the wind screen which I purchased in MD. Was about to put me in the back seat and impound the bike until I told him who I worked for (a senator). Got to work, told my boss and he referred me to his lawyer. Court date came and I got off the reckless with just a fine. Moral of the story, better have connections if you want to speed in VA.
