Back into the habit of reading books. Actually not reading but listening to them on audible.
Started with 'hardwiring happiness' useful and applicable to unhappiness in my life. What books have you read that have connected to you on a deep level. Perhaps explain why they did. |

I’m not particularly religious or spiritual but I did read the Bible cover-to-cover about 50 years ago. Lots of wisdom in there.
The Hesiod (Greek) influenced me quite a bit as well. Rhythm of life kind of stuff. Joyce (Portrait of the Artist…) linked a bunch of childhood experiences and Irish heritage for me. Hits very different for others. These days I really enjoy history (Middle Ages and prior), especially what is thought about pre-Greek civilization and other regions of the globe. I take from those books that we are pretty arrogant about our technology and accomplishments. (I’m not into aliens or any of that). Currently reading The Silk Road. I’ve read a lot of literature but most of it feels like someone else’s idea of something important. I wonder, for example, if the Brontë sisters’ writings are considered great literature because they sold a lot back in their day, sort of like saying the Kardashians are great TV 100 years from now. In other words, old timey entertainment is now classic literature (applies to Shakespeare as well). Lately I watch a lot of YT videos on history (fascinated by what we continue to learn about ancient Egypt as one example). I like a channel called the Desert Drifter who hikes into some remote spots in the US SW and shows old living, farming, storage and other sites, especially in remote areas, cliffs, etc. Videos are not as time-efficient as reading, but the images can be really helpful. |

Having read the other thread there are some good suggestions but I'm kind of looking for something that connects with the soul and broadens horizons. I read the bible around 25 years ago and the old testament was quite a good read. Perhaps the right book finds the right reader at the right time but I'm sparing no effort to do my part.

The Celestine Prophecy and related series. Something about the personal intention just resonated with me. I catch myself every now and then, driving down the road, visualizing the lights staying green (or me failing and really seeing the yellow/red sequence) and getting exactly what I saw.
