Hello Everyone,

So im not sure how to start this off but I will just go for it. I used to be very active and played college baseball from 2002-2005. I was in great shape and ran 5-7miles per day because I was a pitcher and needed to keep my endurance up and legs strong. I lifted a lot of weights. My playing weight was 210-214, depending on the day. I was and still am 6'4. I miss those days as it was a blast playing college baseball and traveling the country.

Fast forward to 13-15yrs. I have gained some weight, heaviest I have ever been. I enjoy lifting weights and running but the "will" and "motivation" hasn't been there for a few months. I built a nice gym in our basement with a punching bag, speed bag, weight bench, treadmill and free weights. I was in there 3 days per week for the first 3 months of this year then just fizzled out. I tend to eat healthy during the day and was doing well when I ordered Factor meals as my dinner meals for a few months as everything was portioned out.

My issue is, I know I need to get back into the gym but I cant seem to get down there. I will be heading to FLA in about 72 days with the family and would like to drop about 20lbs before then. I usually lift heavy and can gain muscle pretty easily. It's getting the fat off that takes me some time now. I dont take any supplements other than protein shakes after lifting.

I just need ideas on how to get a good start on losing the lbs. I might look into getting back to playing racquetball for the cardio but those places are getting less and less here in Cincinnati.

Thanks for reading..

Diet is 70% of the battle in my opinion. Up your cardio - try to workout at least 4 times a week. It's willpower at first, but it will eventually be a habit, just make it a habit. Find cardio you enjoy or at least don't mind, if you hate it you won't want to stick with it. You have 72 days to lose 20lbs and you're at your heaviest weight yet, I think you have this in the bag if you put your mind to it. Just takes some effort, good luck man!

It certainly doesn't get any easier once you hit 40, 50, and beyond

Thank you sir for the info!

At the end of the day, my biggest thing is finding a workout that I love doing and wont get bored with.

Well there is more than 1 way to skin a cat. I am not one for repeat workouts, or set regimens for the most part. I would rather do what I would feel on a specific day without overworking a body part. Rather then have specific movements or exercises in place I would pick a body part associated with the day for lifting and ensure I do my minimal cardio, 30 mins. The cardio again was based on what I felt like doing. Some days I wanted to run, other days row, and sometimes bike. Just do what you want, but bottom line is at least you are doing something and again diet is 70% at least.

You also don't have to love it just show up repeatedly until its a habit. Once that happens you won't ever quit.

Well, you just might. It's been since September. . .

I walked over to drop a package at FedEx. I knew there were a couple of exercise places in that industrial park. And it's within walking distance.

I may go take a look at a X-fit box . . .

Find music you really love, personal music, the rest will fall into place on it's own....

Back in the gym yesterday after a month off. I had bad tendinitis in my right forearm/elbow and started PT. He actually found a shoulder issue and form issue due to my shoulder stressing the forearm etc..etc..amazing how connected everything is. After an oral steroid regimen and some dry needling, it is 90% better, so I went to the gym. I usually have an intense and heavy workout, but I just did a lighter, higher rep. I almost felt like a newbie at the gym, haha. Injuries are so frustrating, but I know coming back too early and too hard will only cause more delays. At least I kept my diet good, and my weight is the same. Feeling sore/tight today feels great.

Figured I'd drop in here and start to contribute. ~6 weeks out from my next powerlifting meet and haven't competed in a few years now. Also my first meet in the sub-masters class and also bumping up a class in USPA to more easily roll into 198.

I'm naturally sitting around lower 200's and it's just not rational to try to drop down to the 180's anymore with where i'm sitting now.

I'd be REALLY happy to total 1400, competing raw class. We'll see where I net out, because i'd honestly be pretty content to get close to the 1400's at all.

Whats up everyone, been over a year since I've last posted;I had a shoulder replacement in November 2019 and we have since moved outta NY and headed down to SC. Training has been slow and steady with decent gains since my surgery. Here's a few recent pics. Still considering doing a Masters Physique but haven't decided just yet,I'll be 52 next month. Hope everyone is doing well...

I had a reverse-shoulder replacement since a conventional replacement would not be feasible. Basically, the ball&socket parts of the shoulder switch sides. Its more of a salvage procedure to allow use of your arm.

Thank you.
Had a greater surgery in 2016, they sawed off the connection between the collar bone and the arm capsule right side, that recovery had taken some time. Reason was too less space for muscles and lines, have had constant pain and didnt know at last how to rest my arm
Since that it goes ways more better.

Rolled into weigh-ins today and easily sat at 194 in the 198 class. Feeling pretty healthy and we'll see how it goes tomorrow!

No way I wanna be 205 the night before and barely make it then back up before lifting. Or even better weigh in night before.

Stopped most supplements and trying to gain muscle the old fashioned way this time around. And so far I feel alot better, just generally speaking. The weights do feel a little heavier, no question about it, but I feel good n strong. Ordered some dip bars so I can do them at home more. Good times.
