My son (10 year old skater/little leaguer) is well liked in school, as I'm pretty sure all of OT's kids are except for Lups but I told my son if anyone would to ever start with him, to go along with the picking/jokes and to be quick and fire back with his own remarks.

I even told him if it came down to self defense, do what you gotta do. Back in the 80's and 90's, fights at my schools in NY were common. Now, everyone just talks

My child was bullied as well. I went to the authorities and asked them to handle it the first 2 times. The third time I told my daughter to break his nose if he laid his hands on her again and I'll deal with the repercussions. My wife, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and a few others were aghast. My family was uniformly asking why I took so long to give that advice.

He decided to attempt to hit her within a week of the last occurrence and she hit him exactly where I taught her but without breaking his nose (too bad). He stopped bullying her afterwards and the principal called me for a bit of a chat.

Great outcome in my book!!

My son has microtia so he was about three when he started reading.

The latest incident in his life was back here in preschool. He was picked on a lot. The school was pretty cool, so their teacher and I removed all fun reads written in Finnish from the class.

In two days, because he could translate the shark books he got an upper hand on the boys of the class. In a week, his teacher called me to tell me that the issue was solved.

The big bully ended up on my dinner table for a baking lesson. His mom was quite surprised when her kid needed help and accepted it from a smaller kid , and had no issues after an hour defending the tiny kid.

Then the boys went for a walk with my dog and i explained his mom that her home is surrounded by my family land, and that I'm bitch enough to ensure that the home prices in that area will drop like a bag of stones if her son ever talks down my son again (i think i said something like a free dog park will surround you in a week, enjoy the smell of pee!) and then i told her that in this city, the last name matters.

I'm really nice when it comes to my kids.

Few years back I stopped to ask a Baltimore City cop a question, while there the officer pulled over a car for speeding and didn't write a ticket. I asked the officer why no ticket... and the officer said 'it was a mom taking a kid to school'. It was a white cop and a black mom and the cop without being too specific just intimated that as a police officer a verbal warning and not taking money out of someone pocket might just be the best way.

My mom is a speeder for sure, and hasn't received a speeding ticket in over 30 years supposedly. When they ask her why she was speeding, she explains that she is a ER nurse for the county hospital and before she finishes her statement they let her go with a warning.

My son is in Tae kwon-do more as an activity and help to focus, but in the back of my mind it is also to help with self-defense skills and as he improves more and more if it comes to that I'm confident he will kick someones face pretty hard if pushed to it. And I would end up telling the school you guys need to get your ducks in line because I am getting mine in line.

If you want your son to really do self defense, take akido, judo, hapkedo, or mix marital arts. As a 1st degree black belt in taekwondo, in a street brawl it wont do much. Can I f*ck shit up? Yea but if you break it down, the art consist of 80% kicks. Your arm game will lack. I do agree though it does help with focus and discipline. I got lucky for my master was 8th degree in taekwondo and 6th degree in hapkedo.

When I transferred from taekwondo to kenpo my sensei said I had the best kicks he had ever seen.

Taekwondo looks cool that's for sure.

Yeah your right--he is training with Master Herb Perez--since you have been in the sport a long time you know who he is. He's an 8-year old kid so just getting him into the thing is important for now.

When I was in my teens I took a year of Kenpo, which was hardcore and really hard but I'm glad I did. Even to this day I can block a punch or kick and hurt the hand or foot of the person throwing it. Works really well on the ex-wife.

Of course when she thought she would throw a punch and then get the instinctive block it would just make her more mad so then I would use my sprinting skills which I was even better at.
