How many fights have you been in? 99% of the time, both people involved get thrown in jail (when caught). You can try to pull that omg I felt like I was going to get killed shit in court, but it usually ends with you crying when you get 25 to life....

Perhaps I drew unwarranted distinction, here's what I meant to get across...

The F1 was purpose built as a survival knife. It's main function chopping wood, use with a baton, carving, cutting, skinning, use with firesteel, etc. That's not to say it couldn't be used as a weapon, of course it could. However, one of the most important factors in a weaponized knife to many people is whether or not it can be easily concealed and quickly accessed. The F1 makes no real attempt at either, at least not to the extent the Emerson does.

If anything get a high voltage taser/stun gun. More range than a knife/bat/whatever, and if you see someone walking towards you with a weapon (as you mentioned), you will get the jump on them. It's non-lethal, but debilitating. And they're so widely accepted as self defense weapons and not offensive weapons that you'll probably have little trouble convincing a jury you were really protecting yourself.

Or get one of those "disguised" stun guns that looks like a cell phone

Unless you're walking around in a bad part of town, getting robbed (and if you are, you 99.9% won't get beat up if you swallow your pride and just give them your shit fast because they don't wanna get caught), you will probably not going to get randomly jumped on the street unless you like to piss off a whole lot of the wrong people.

I walk on campus with a KA-BAR. Sharpest knife I've owned to date as well as extremely durable.
