Been on both sides of the fence.

Started on the tools now shuffling papers and putting out fires.

Honestly I was in control of my destiny when on the tools. My abilities controlled the results in any given situation.
Being behind a desk you are at the mercy of other people's actions that directly affect you.

The monetary difference keeps me behind the desk.

Its 80 mental 20 physical for me. My work thankfully consists of this ratio, but the non paid hours in the after hours are a bitch I average at least 2 everyday : sucks to be in contracting. I should switch to contract administration

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Combination would be best. Like a geologist or inspector of some type where you have to drive out and do stuff. I hate sitting on a computer all day, but not as bad as I hate working in the sun.

My family isn't blue collar. Physical labor was never a thought.

I just retired from 30+ years and am looking to my next job. I'm thinking bikini wax technician. Is that mental or physical?

A lot depends on the work itself. When I was doing environmental geology, I loved the field work and hated the report writing. Now that I'm in the IT field, I'm much happier doing big picture planning stuff and would rather avoid the hands-on stuff (which is as physical as it gets in IT).

Looks physical. Some jobs are just better than others.

I actually get more tired sitting at my computer. When I am at project sites its pretty demanding and yes I do get tired, but its a good tired.

Guess I'm one of the few. I can't stand sitting at a desk all day. I've been a mechanic the last 16 years and have had manual labor jobs all my life. After or before work I would hit the gym for an hour or two depending on the kids schedule.

Whether physical or mental I'd just like work to end whenever it ends. For me it seems like there is always some shit that comes up with a client that is important to them, which unfortunately makes it important to me. "Accounting emergency" should be an oxymoron but it isn't.

Worst physical labor job I ever had was asbestos removal. It paid well for a strictly labor job, but my god the conditions were atrocious. I got burned on steam pipes, cut daily by a razor knife, worked in filth, had cockroaches crawling all over me, and had to work next to leaky sewerage pipes. Not to mention temps often over 100F. That job sucked.

Be careful what you wish for. I worked for a company that did a lot of photoshoots and we had people who did that, but more often than not it was on someone like this.

I don't have a peasant background. Mayors, business or doctors or corporate jobs. But you don't know the tone of OT in general? Cmon now.

My next sentence is me being serious now if you couldn't tell. Why so serious?

Was it for the money? If I had to work I'd be all mental.
