You think it's bad now, wait until politicians start telling the truth.

They all new about the oil, finance, housing, bad loans, etc.

American's are giving them all a free pass and continue to vote the same crooks back into office.

Even the press is in on it as they are not asking the tough questions. if they did, 1/2 of Washington would be in jail. But it lieu of this, I guess knowing who Paris Hilton is screwing is more impoanrt.

There are still lots of government contractoring jobs available. As long as Iraq and Afghanistan continue, the Federal government will need a large amount of civilian contractors and GS employees to support the troops. I have plenty of money saved up and considering the fact that these companies like General Dynamics, Raytheon, etc are looking for more people, i'm not worried. Plus like someone else said, theres always unemployment.

I feel bad for those losing their jobs right now. I know there are people on here who have, even if they don't want to say anything. I just wish you all the best and hope you get through this alright.

Although you are correct, once Obama steps into office and once he gets his way and the troops eventually pull out of Iraq/Afghanistan I dont think you'll see alot of defense contracting jobs available. The only reason these public entities exist is because of the republican party being in office the last 8 years. They love defense spending, as do companies like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, Raytheon etc....

IMHO, those fields arent safe, especially considering what may come up after Obama steps into the White House

Agree with a lot of your post. However, the press is in bed with the same corporations that run Congress hence why they don't ask tough questions or expose these crooks in Washington.

You got me. I made that post after getting home from working early this morning until now. I misspelled one word.

If you think that the troop pull out, if there is one, will happen immediately you're wrong.

When Obama said he was going to get us out of Iraq, most people assumed he meant out of the middle east. Wrong. The focus will shift from Iraq to Afghanistan where they've just started their troop buildup. They will still need more troops to replace ones who decide to leave the military and as long as these troop levels are maintained, civilian workers will always be there alongside the military. The money has been spent and contracts made between the government and these companies to build vehicles, weapons, train soldiers, maintain computer networks, etc.

Those "fields" will be safe for at least the next two or three years AT LEAST. GS employee's? Not so sure. They are federal employees.

my company was a little over 1,000 just a year ago, with offices in UK, Poland, Korea and 2 offices in China. All of those got sold, taking the headcount down to about 150. Last Friday they laid off 75 or 80 people, so now we have 2 offices with roughly 40 people in each.

My boss secretly told me that I should start looking, because they will probably axe even more people after the first quarter.

With state budget cuts, our school's principle teaching hospital is facing a lot of financial stress. There is a plan in the works to cut about 150 jobs soon. With the increasing number of unemployed people, and our position as the people's hospital in Boston, it's not going to be pretty. The stress level will be at a ridiculously high level in the next couple of years.

While defense spending will go down, contract work within Civilian agencies will increase. So companies like Booz, SAIC, CSC, IBM, CACI...ect will benefit

They make a grip of money though. Had a teacher who worked for them come into our class a couple years ago and asked "who wants to make $150k?" lol

I wasn't worried as the company I work for (bank) is doing great but it just bought out another thats just as big as we are. So in essence all the jobs are being doubled. Obviously there will be more work but I can't see how there won't be 10-20% layoffs in the next year or so.
