Red face ISP To Report Illegal Music Downloads...

http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/patterso....34DejiWoazJV4

how will this effect us? they can't just slow down something we pay for right? would it be safe to say we are still good to go on music dling?

instead of dling recently i found it easier just to rip the song of youtube and rip just the audio and convert it into mp3 format. a little more work, but i find it way easier to find the songs, etc.

Oh shit if this does affect us.

What programs do you use to rip audio from YouTube and then convert to MP3, please?

It's not much to worry about I don't think. Most ISPs really don't want to start filtering or throttling traffic or getting involved in copyright issues due to potentially losing their common carrier status. Additionally, it's just (a lot) more work for the ISP with no real promise of profit if they get involved.

ISPs can track what protocols you use (although most don't even do this), and could even track what files you download, even over encrypted connections by using a man-in-the-middle attack or proxy software such as blue coat. They won't do it for the two reasons mentioned above though.

As far as passing on nastygrams from the RIAA, yeah, they might do that.

BTW, if you're really worried about this and don't care about download speed too much, use Tor or I2P.
