I retired when I lived in Santa Clara. I chose AZ as it offered politics more aligned with mine. Cheaper cost of living. Golf 365 days a year. 24 years now and no regrets.

I'd pass on Florida cause I hate high humidity but to each their own. Better than California.

I think it'll truly come down to tax rate(s) and where my pension money will have the most room to stretch its metaphorical legs.

Sedona was great and I grew up visiting family in Phoenix/Tempe, so I'm somewhat familiar with Arizona as a state. I also dated a girl who lived in Kingman and one who lived in Flagstaff.

I spent a lot of time in Austin due to another female I dated. Austin was too blue for me, but it's clean.

I'm heading to Miami in September to get a lay of the land. We'll see how I feel about it after spending some time there.

The fear-mongering NYC TV news talking heads and politicians are now in a scramble to pass laws prohibiting the possession of guns in certain places like schools and government buildings. Funny thing is that guns are already prohibited in schools per NY State Penal Code, Post Offices per federal statute, and even our county office building and courthouse per posted policy on a sign right outside the door. In other words, nothing has changed.....

I agree...except in UncleWede's case. I don't know if I'd feel safe knowing that he was roaming the streets with a CCW.....

It amazes me how many people fear someone they never feared before - just because they have a gun now. It's the same person.

When I get in with a bunch of anti's - I usually explain it like this. "So every day you walk across a cross walk with people a few feet away from you with tons of steel and horsepower bearing down on you with only 1/2 a foot on the brake keeping them from mowing you down - yet you think NOTHING of that. Yet that same person on the other side of a restaurant with a holstered and concealed weapon is going to somehow become so unhinged that they are going to snap and kill you? It's the SAME person.

….and for the ruling class(es) they fully understand the purpose of protection with a firearm. After all, they travel most often with a circus of armed professionals safeguarding their every move (…and benefit from that network of security). They simply don't want that protection extended to the people they view as being beneath them. The ruling class/celebrity elites would shutter themselves indoors much of the time if that armed presence was no longer available to them. Trust me on that.

….They are not special and they do not deserve more protections than you or me just because they are celebrities, politicians, etc.

I totally forgot about that. I think he lives in a county that regularly issues too. Los Angeles County FINALLY began issuing CCW's within the last couple of years. It was long overdue. Every surrounding county had been issuing for many years and there wasn't a single occurrence that I can recall where a person with a valid CCW committed a crime or misused that privilege. That reality is counter to any argument the anti-gun lobbyists can make about people carrying firearms. I had a CCW for a few years prior to entering law enforcement and thankfully I never had to draw my weapon. Additionally, law enforcement patrolling in issuing counties never had issues when dealing with people with CCW's on traffic stops. None! Zilch! Revocations mainly happened due to people failing to submit renewal paperwork or people traveling to places without CCW reciprocity (…California has zero reciprocity) and having firearms relinquished by law enforcement in those states. The best approach is to obtain a CCW in California and then obtain Arizona's CCW by proxy. Arizona has reciprocity with about 39 other states in the union, so it covers most places.

I decided to get back into firearms and I'm putting together an AR. Got lucky with a Noveke stripped lower. Now I'm on the hunt for either a matching Noveke upper or a LMT MRP upper. Everything I want is sold out. I've got the rest of the parts just hanging out that I'm itching to take to the range.
