Ever heard of some old Yankee player who wore #8? It ain’t over till it’s ovah. Ask the Falcons that and the 14 Seahawks. That chart above can easily be flipped through the first top 2-3 lines.
Yeah I realize that but I just think there's something off about the Chiefs this season, particularly Mahomes. Defenses are playing 2 deep and keeping a lot of their DBs in a position to prevent the deep balls. I just think teams have gotten smarter in terms of how they play them and everyone is paying attention. How many picks has he thrown so far this season? 10.
The Chiefs have played more games than any other team the last two seasons. Back to back Super Bowl appearances. I imagine they are very tired. I think that has something to do with them being off this season.

Nah, that would be a very weak excuse. Like I said earlier, teams have begun to figure out how to limit their offense. "Being tired" should never be an excuse for any professional football team and I'm pretty sure you'll be hard pressed to EVER hear a player or coach say that.

I don't believe that has anything to do with it. I don't ever recall hearing any team say they were tired the next year when they want to back to back SBs. There is a good amount of time to recover between the SB and camp.

I think it is EXTREMLY hard to get to the SB back to back or even be a 'real' contender. A lot of this has to do with $$$. The NFL is designed so you can be great one or two years and then you need to go and do 'rebuilding'. You can only pay so many people so much money before you are out of cap space. The only team that seemed to find a way to always be a contender for 20 years was the Pats. But they were somehow able to take no name people, put them into their system, and made them good/great. They then leave when they are worth too much(Bill does not like paying players) and often did not perform at the same level as when they were with the pats. They had a way of elevating player's abilities if felt like.

Anyways I think people have just studied the Chiefs a significant amount because they wanted to either replicate their greatness or find a way to stop Mahomes. Maybe Mahomes didn't take care of his body and mind during the time off before camp? He does not seem like his old self.

As I wrote in the other thread, he got married and popped out a kid. If that doesn't explain his sudden performance drop.....

Don't forget, Mahomes also got PAID big $$. I mentioned this in the past but no QB that has gotten paid the big bucks has won the Super Bowl.

this is more of an anomaly and coincidence than an indicator of team success. Brady has skewed the number because of his wins and typically taking less than market value, and some early success in some generational type players (Wilson, Mahomes, etc)

But, if you look at the top 10 highest cap hits for QBs in a given season, more times than not, they are in the playoffs and in the AFC/NFC Championship games. And as anyone who watches the NFL knows, once you make it to the playoffs, anything can happen.

Matt Ryan for example was one epic choke job by his coach away from disproving the stat with the 3rd highest cap hit that season at just under $24 million.

And Brady did it last year with the 5th highest cap hit in the league.

And if anyone is curious, Mahomes has the 20th highest cap hit in the league this season. The biggest reason for the drop off in production this year is the chiefs complete lack of a running game, coupled with an abysmal defense, and Mahomes feeling like he has to carry the team and make plays. Defenses have all but given up stopping the run vs the chiefs and are focusing on the pass.

Brady

And before that, wasn't Manning paid big bucks by the Broncos?

Yeah perhaps, but everything pales in comparison to the Mahomes deal. KC put all their chips in one basket and it will come back to haunt them.

As for Manning, all I remember (and fondly so) was when he got ripped a new one by the Legion of Boom. Those were the days...
Now my team sucks ass.

Last years SB gave a preview of what the Chiefs were gonna go thru this year. They had a number of injuries on the O line just prior to the playoffs (?) and they couldn't block anyone in the SB. This year have I believe all new starters on the line and they can't do squat. Can't run, so Mahomes has to pass, can't pass block so Mahomes is always under pressure. He's not handling it too well.

As a Lions fan, it would be hilarious to see em go 0-17 while simultaneously seeing Stafford win the SB. Either occurrence alone would be funny, but both simultaneously would be proof that a God does exist and that God hates the Lions!

Rodgers tested positive, out for Chiefs.

Is this the opening notes of his swan song?

Recent reports indicate he was not vaccinated, and had (unsuccessfully) petitioned the NFL for "alternative treatment" options.

I think the phrase Rodgers used was, "immunized" or for Jeopardy fans it seems to suggest that he burned a little incense, ate an exotic SE Asian bug larva and then went to a rally.

But he is now classified in the UNvaccinated protocol for NFL players, which is why he can't come back by Sunday.

Another backup QG opportunity this weekend?
