Held to a slightly higher degree of scrutiny since it is operated by Corporate and not an independent dealer.

Port makes repairs to vehicles damaged in transit are are held to factory standards. I would prefer the port doing the install than an independent dealership.

Tell them they can keep their parts then!

A dealer installing a roof would be a gong show. I'm surprised they are even allowed to do that for crash standards reasons.

I would want BMW to specifically say that the CF roof is installed at the dealer.

Well, then BMW will be required to release a "BMW M2 Competition CF Galore Edition" in the future, if it wants to get rid of its (future) stock of CF roofs.

Let's beware of "Nah, an M2 doesn't need a CF roof. Look, we offered one in 2018 and it didn't sell well.".

Seriously, let the fine people at Garching know that no factory or pre-delivery install, is a serious drawback for buying their MPP CF roof for the M2. Way too many comments make this point.

I understand your worries that the dealers are not qualified to replace the roof; but is the port qualified?
It makes a warranty difference which is important when your car is torn apart. The roof and everything else they pulled out of your car and then put back in your car would be covered by the full warranty, which might come in handy when shit is miss aligned, rattling around, or leaking.

I saw the video someone shared with the VDC in action. I am sure they are excellent at what they do but there is still room for error and you also pay more for the parts installed and don't get to keep your original pieces.

Also, the fact that it's not a factory replacement option and a completely new accessory from scratch; the prices for M2C MP parts are going to be astronomical. I call it now; $3,000 for the roof (estimate based on F82 OEM prices), not counting labor, to be named later.

The sad part is I fear this will just get strung along like everything else. No official word from BMW for months and months. How do I know this to be true? History tells us so. There's no mention of the CF parts on BMW Press website for USA, just their global site. Why? So, I reached out to BMW Genius and they said the same, they have no info for the US at this moment. The roof won't be available until November (if there are no delays). Am I hopeful we'll get an official word from BMW anytime soon? Hell no.

BMW can be so sadistic at times.

So there is still the dilemma of parts not being available until Nov.
The roof is not available until 11/18. So good news in that, first takers (July production) would not miss out on a factory CF roof going forward on new orders.

I agree with port installation being superior on many items.

I never actually seen anyone on the forum install it. Personally I like the smaller carbon ducktail spoiler.

The theory that the CSL parts are being offered (use at your own risk) since they've scrapped that project seems even more plausible now. I don't know any dealership that would do this work in house. They outsource things like this as it's considered bodywork, not mechanical. Rhetorical question: Do you really want the body shop which the dealership has an agreement with (to reduce cost) replace the roof of your brand new car?

BMW have been testing the waters with the whole small car/ larger engine concept since they released the E82 in 2008 but they kept the price in check (around US 50K).

Now that they realized they have a winning formula (duh), they're now going milk it for all that its worth...

So anxious to see (and hear) one of these in person. Thanks for the sneak peek!

Very curious to see the undercarriage photos

Is the front kidney grille a single piece versus the traditional 2 that we're accustomed to seeing? Seems that way from the photos...

Yes, in a recent training video it was referred to as a "mono kidney" (watch here). If you guys figure out how to split the kidney into two distinct grilles and create a center piece that lays flush to the bumper and is paint matched to the body color you'll have a lot of customers.

Translated it and it confirms what I was told:

Q: Do the newly introduced M Performance parts also fit on the M2 / M2 LCI or just on the BMW M2 Competition?
A: everything fits except the parts of the front (carbon kidneys, sword).

Q: over how many kg weight saving we talk in total? Note: the vehicle exhibited did not have the carbon boot lid yet.
A: about 31 KG

Q: how much is the whole cost assuming you take everything (ie including rims)?
A: Prices are not yet final but you should expect 25-30K € without installation.

Q: Can you have parts installed from the factory (e.g. carbon roof)?
A: All accessories are installed at any dealer. There will be detailed installation instructions.

Q: Seriously? Convert roof at a dealer?
A: Yes, everyone should be able to do that.

Q: Will there be the possibility to have parts installed at the factory in the future?
A: This is not planned

Q: Will there be a limited M2 CSL / GTS (whatever that means) that will have all those parts already?
A: No comment

Q: What should the customer do with the original parts?
A: (There was no answer, just an embarrassed smile)

Q: Is the AGA made in the UK or made in Germany?
A: The vehicle exhibited is a pre-production and it has not yet been decided who will deliver the AGA. Currently a 'made in the UK' is installed. Note from me: 'made in UK' = red arch ltd. The company that also builds the performance AGA of the M2 including rattling at cold start...

Q: Does the original exhaust on the front pipe have to be cut?
A: Yes

Q: How are the flaps actuated? About BT remote?
A: The performance AGA will not have any flaps. Note from me: I could not believe that because the Series AGA should have 2 flaps and have just made big eyes. Let's see what's coming ...

Q: Which AGA is louder: the performance of the M2 / M2 LCI or the Competition?
A: The OPF reduces the volume significantly. The performance of the M2 / M2 LCI is louder with open flaps.

Perhaps we should do a groupbuy on the carbon roof... And then ask one dealer to install them all. They will be so good at it, they will not do it wrong. #justkidding
