Thomas Dolby also produced this fine song released in 1985 (actually he produced the complete "Steve McQueen"/"Two Wheels Good" album, but this one stood out). It remains one of my favorite songs. Paddy McAloon explained that it's sung from the perspective of a soon-to-be father lecturing his soon-to-be-born son (how he's enjoying his time like a king inside the belly, causing his mother the usual maternal inconveniences) and also repeating what the mother is blaming both (him + future son) for.
Please be careful is never careful | Till it hears the gun | She will always pay the bills | For the having big fun | He talks so well, what can you do, | It's pretty plain he means it too | I don't want to sell you lines, | I only mean to do you right | But I'm a simple slave of appetite, | I'm a poor slave of appetite | Hunger howls, hungers red, | Hungers stays till it's fed | Then it some h-h-how fades, | Then it somehow leaves your sight | Depending on its appetite, | Depending on your appetite | So if you take - Then put back good | If you steal - be Robin Hood | If your eyes are wanting all you see | Then I think I'll name you after me | I think I'll call you appetite | Here she is with two small problems | And the best part of the blame | Wishes she could call him heartache | But it's not a boy's name | If you grow up to be, just like him, just like me | You're fighting for exclusive rights, | For honeymoons each sleepless night | In which case I'll call you appetite | Yes I think I'll call you appetite | So if you take - Then put back good | If you steal - be Robin Hood | If your eyes are wanting all you see | Then I think I'll name you after me | I think I'll call you appetite

Artemis, I purchased Thomas Dolby's albums "The Golden Age of Wireless" and "The Flat Earth" in 1984. My favorite song on The Flat Earth is "Hyperactive!," which Dolby originally wrote for Michael Jackson. Apparently Jackson wasn't interested, so Dolby recorded it himself. I'm glad he did.
Here are a couple more of my favorites that are on the album, The Flat Earth: Note: not sure if the versions I posted here of Hyperactive! and I Scare Myself are the exact same versions that are on the album, The Flat Earth. |

If not familiar with that PS album but appreciating Dolby's work, give it a listen (here). Exquisite sophisti-pop.

Mr. Big/Racer X have never visited Australia but I was lucky enough to see Paul Gilbert play live at a guitar clinic here in Brisbane. The man is a walking guitar masterclass. Billy Sheehan on the bass is not too shabby either. If you like rock/metal music and a laugh or two check out Rock Yujiyama on Youtube. You probably will not understand much of what is said, but you really don't need to! Last edited by bobowar135; 09-28-2021 at 08:11 AM.. |

Back in the day, mum used to play this album to death. Now with 35 years of hindsight it's not hard to see why....
