International Travel Question

This might be a longshot but...

If travelling back to the US, I know you have to get a negative covid test within 3 days of your return flight. If you have a layover and stay in the airport, that still holds true. However, if I decide to leave the airport during my layover, do I then need to take another test, or does my original test still hold valid?

I'm looking at flights and on one of the return flights there's a 13 hour layover in Qatar. Normally this would have been a great opportunity for me to leave the airport and do some sight seeing and grab something to eat before returning to the airport for my 2nd flight... But I'm unsure what the protocol is with covid.

Technically, there’s no rule saying you can’t leave the airport. However, depending on the country where you were “last at,” there could be further requirements.

To me, and I have traveled during pandemic, as long as the country you’re having the layover in is not high risk and your flight to the US is within 3 days, then you’ve satisfied that requirement. Airlines only check to see if you have proof of negative test.

Looks like it's country specific.... I seem to have found my answer:

"Hamad International Airport (HIA) remains open for transit flights. U.S. citizens transiting HIA must have an onward flight departing fewer than 24 hours after their arrival. They cannot enter Qatar."

Looks like I'll be getting cozy in the lounge during my 13 hour layover....

I can only say this-

I flew 2 months ago from Europe and literally no one in the US asked me for my covid test nor that fake declaration they make you sign.

The only time this was ever asked was when I was checking in in Europe, i had to show my neg test.

There is so much bs and theater going on with this stuff I don't even know where to start.

Security theater in air travel? Seriously? C'mon.

This isn't about international travel but I got caught in that Southwest BS of cancelled flights yesterday. A long day of travel but thankful I made it home. Nashville airport was a nightmare. The poor lady at the desk said she hasn't seen it this bad in 30 years. She looked so stressed out.
