Cool Purchased PS5 Today Direct from Sony

Sony sent me an invitation to buy the PS5 today via invitation only queue. So I said, why not and joined the queue. 15 minutes later, I secured a PS5 (disc version) and spare controller. Anyone know if they have worked out most of the bugs with it? How about the failing controller issues? Still a problem? The system arrives in 1 business day.

I'm also was thinking about just going the scalper route and reselling it new in box but I think I'd lose a little respect for myself if I did that, although I could be $400 in profit. Thoughts?

Also, if I sell it, because I bought the system via Sony and my psn account, they only allocate 1 console per household so I'm SOL for securing another one via Sony Direct at this point.

I tried that about four months ago. It got stolen off the truck and Sony gave me a hard time about it. I had to wait almost two months to get my money back. I hope this doesn’t happen to you. I have gotten several invites since but didn’t want to risk it with Sony again.

I have pro account at GameStop and was invited to buy there and fortunately just got one from there. Hopefully this one doesn’t get stolen too.

Reselling the PS5 and the Xbox ruins it for everyone. I'm glad you're thinking twice about it.

Yes, but with new red controller added, it came out to about $590 with my credit card cash back%. I'm going to sell my used PS4 and PS3 to also make up some cash on the upgrade.

Glad your daughter secured one!

That sounds like a crappy experience. I made sure to use a credit card I could easily just do a charge back on if something happened and Sony doesnt want to cooperate. Also glad you snagged one.

Yah I agree. I've decided to keep it and upgrade from my PS4 Pro.

I mean if you need an extra $400, it’s not any worse than what the scalpers are doing. I would consider how much time it will take to sell it at a $400 profit before doing so.

I hope to replace my PS4 Pro too.

Yes my bank returned my money immediately. However, that’s really a temporary situation until the investigation comes back in your favor. It could turn out that they end up taking the money back. That’s why they call it a temporary credit. Been through this with both Amex and Navy Federal on purchases.

I had a cruise ship vacation out of Italy paid for with one of my cards. I was paid back immediately but again, it took them 4-5 weeks to determine it truly was fraud and let me keep the money. They also consider how many times your report fraud and reserve the right not to credit you back immediately in some situations.

Ive been a Playstation guy since day 1 of the PS1. I've had my PS5 since launch. Its great, I love it. It just received its second big update and unlocked the expandable memory slot among many other small fixes. The current firmware is really stable and I have zero issues.

Please don't try and make money off gamers. When we as gamers get an opportunity to get the "next console" please use it as a benefit. Don't be a douche and try and squeeze funds out of someone that wants to upgrade their gaming experience. These people are scum of the earth period.

I got mine at launch and haven't noticed any bugs so far. I don't play it a lot but haven't had any issues with it.

I'm hoping some exclusive titles really start ramping up soon, as I've mostly been playing pretty generic multi-platform/generation games so far. Really waiting on the new Gran Turismo to come out... I think march 2022.

Good to know. Are you using it with any surround home theater system? Mine will be hooked up to an 8K Denon Receiver so I'm hoping the pass through works as expected as well.

I'm currently looking into steering wheel sim solutions to prepare for a awesome racing set up for Gran Turismo. I still own the original. Its still fun to this day.

Yeah I'm using a Denon AVR x2700h 8k receiver, mated to Kef T series front speakers and center channel, a pair of Sonos 6.5" in ceiling surround speakers, and a 12" sub from Hsu Labs.

For the receiver I use a fiber optic HDMI cable with audio relay and it works like a charm.

I have the PS5 in a cabinet where I installed a couple of AC Infinity cooling fans to cool both the PS5 and the receiver since both can get pretty hot especially in an enclosed space.

Something about not having an object displayed in that corner is bothering me.

This is how it goes... decor ALWAYS takes forever in our house lol.

We had the house built almost 4 years ago and just now finished decorating most of the rooms - maybe I'll post some pics in the house projects thread. Obviously some still remains.

Open to suggestions for what to put there.

I'm using the same exact receiver with a LG C9 OLED and Klipsch surround set up. Good to know its operating well. My PS4 Pro with my Denon had a switching issue and would send a blank signal through the Denon. Plugging in the PS4 Pro directly into TV and passing audio through earc solved the cut out issue. Common for a lot of PS4 Pro owners. I'm hoping this was solved on PS5.

Are you using the 8K hdmi input on the Denon for the PS5 or one of the others?

Yup using the 8K input for the PS5.

The only dumb thing about the receiver is it uses IR signal to operate, so if it's in an enclosed area you won't be able to use the receiver remote. I use a Harmony companion remote with the hub placed outside, but it isn't perfect. Thankfully the eARC channel in the fiber optic HDMI cable works like a charm.

I do recall it being a pain to get everything synced and up and running when I was first setting things up. So if you have issues just know it'll work... you just have to work with the settings a bit.

Link to the purchase site? You have to set up your PSN account on the Sony website to receive marketing emails from Sony/Playstation. Once you do that, you just sit and wait for them to send a special email invite to you with a link that expires. The link I got is already expired 1. because I used it for my purchase. 2. they are designed to expire once the purchase queue time window expires.

I'm not sure they are doing anymore of these before the end of the year, but you could try by going into your PSN account and setting up to allow marketing emails and you may get an invite in the future.

Since the release of the PS5, I've actually only received two of these special invites. The first one I unfortunately missed my window to buy. The second one was received 2 months later (this recent one) and was able to purchase one within 15 minutes of my window opening.

Good luck.
