We had to have one of our two kitties put down last week. We enjoyed 18 years of her companionship. She was full grown when she showed up on our doorstep, so not sure of her age, but probably 19 to 20 years old.

I'm missing her terribly. She was my shadow, particularly since retiring 9 years ago. She loved her yard and asked to go out several times a day. During her senior years, I always (100%) went outside with her. When I opened the door, she always went out about 3 feet, then stopped and looked over her shoulder to make sure I was following. We enjoyed countless hours in our beautiful backyard together.

I buried her in her beloved yard, complete with a marker and a small solar light.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure she had a happy life.

A friend here took one of her dogs to another vet this morning, for a second opinion. The dog is about 15 years old, has some permanent medical issues, and appears to be living with pain. It has attacked both the friend and her other dog with no provocation multiple times recently, and seems like he just wants to be left alone.

Her regular vet has been treating this dog's lingering ailments for years, and wanted to keep treating them. The second opinion vet did an examination, and said that the dog had suffered too much already.

I've noticed that our dog has been acting sad this afternoon, as if he can sense that one of his friends is gone.....

That's sad. Give your dog lots of love.

Guess all that Betadine and Bandaid time wasn't just me.....

Study: Tortie cats’ ’tude is not your imagination
Veterinarians from the University of California, Davis, have discovered that cats with calico and tortoiseshell coat patterns tend to challenge their human companions more often than other kinds of felines.

My cat's got some tortie in her coat. That explains it.

Ever see those cats that guard a hallway or stairwell and if you try to get by you get hit? That's my kitty. lol

She doesn't do that to everybody, though. Just me. She must love me the most.

Or maybe she feels like I'm disrespecting her. Cats…

"Like calicos, tortoiseshell cats are almost exclusively female."

I wasn't going to go there, but it does appear to be one of Nature's enduring patterns - sort of the 'Hot Crazy Matrix' of the cat world. To be fair, our current Tortie is more of a lover than a fighter though.
