No iPhone 12 thread yet? Apple had about an hour and a half long release event today. Pre-orders open up on the 16th.

Highlights:

• 5G
• better resolution screens + cameras
• ceramic glass improvements, ~4x more durable than previous
• A14 bionic chip, 5nm architecture, 11.8 billion transistors
• ~40% improvement over A13 apparently O_o
• quad core GPU
• 4 sizes for the phone, smallest is called the "mini" but still has a 5.4" screen while being smaller overall than the SE2020

• Pro versions look very shiny with new body materials, IP68 rating for water/dust
• New Magsafe ecosystem for everything - wireless magnetic charging
• 6.7" largest pro max
• pro adds a telephoto camera w/ 4x optical zoom
• impressive low light / night mode capabilities

I'm still on a 6S with my 2nd battery. Due for an upgrade.

I was seriously pissed when my 5S died and I had to move up to the 7. Hell, I'm still pissed about Apple ditching the 31 pin connector for the lightning. Sure, it's better buy I had a few sound docks and iPods. I'd just like to have stuff last a decade or two.

Only reason to make to move in my opinion is the 5G and networks are in the early stages of build out. Personally, I'm likely going to wait until Verizon (current provider but not wedded) or others have a wider 5G footprint.

About the only thing worth while is stronger glass. Everyone phone feels the same as the previous after about 6 months in. Glass is the most annoying thing past on from generation to generation.

Had an iphone 7 and loved it but the battery was taking a major shit on me. It would barely last through a 10hr shift at work where i barely used it. Upgraded to the iphone 11 last year the week they came out. I’ve been very happy with it although i miss the smaller size of the 7

The only reason i could see for myself to upgrade currently is the addition of 5G since tmobile has the largest 5G network. However i have great fast service on LTE as is. I’m probably gonna wait till i either need a new phone or a couple more gens come out

My wife and I are upgrading this year. She is using an iPhone 8+ and I have an 11promax with broken glass back. I also have 5g on Verizon so hoping to take advantage of it.

Was kind of looking forward to the event to see what else they unleash but then forgot about it. Shows how much I (and I’m sure many others) care about phone updates these days. I don’t think anyone is rushing to order a new phone given the current state of things.

Same except I got my XS 2 years ago. Been working fine and there’s no compelling reason or feature on the 12 that warrants an upgrade. Will wait for the next iteration or two when they put in the 120hz screen and the faster 5G chip, not the dumbed down version.

I have an Iphone 6, original battery. Phone, text, email all still works fine. Few camera shots are fine, have DLSR for my others. 2 apps I use work fine

Paid $400 new over 6 years ago.

As a non-techy general phone user, I have continued to be underwhelmed with new iPhone iterations. I had a 5 until I got an iPhone 8. And I have the 8 still. I might upgrade every three years or so. I was holding out hoping that notch would shrink but looks like I'm SOL. I will probably finally upgrade because I have always been unimpressed with the camera quality on my 8.

Thinking of going 12 pro for the camera alone and it's size is similar to the 8 which is perfect to me. Don't want anything much bigger than the 8.

If you like cameras, they didn’t start getting really good until the iPhone X. The iPhone 12 camera is going to be reason enough to upgrade from an 8. They are phenomenal.

I had a 10S. Ended up getting an 11 Pro just recently because my mom needed a new phone, her old 7 was all messed up, so I just gave her my 10S and got the 11. If not for that I would of kept my 10S. I feel practically no difference between my 10S and this 11 Pro. I find the 12 meh as usual. I personally hate the design, it goes back to the iphone 4-5 design which I find to be the ugliest. I prefer the smoother edges. I'll definitely be sticking with 11.

I like it, the newer camera looks amazing and 5G looks like a solid upgrade once online...

...however, I have an Iphone X that i bought on the day that it came out and it still runs like brand new. The battery is perfect, the OS is real solid and its lightning quick. I feel like these phones no longer get outdated like they used to simply because the hardware is so strong and the SW can no longer keep up whearas we were in the opposite situation about 10 years ago.

My advice, if you need a new phone or yours is taking a shit, then get the 12, otherwise it's just another phone.

Also in this particular event I was waiting for the new Macbook with silicon processors as I do actually need a new laptop.

Paid $1000+ tax for an 11 pro februay of this year.... and 8 months later they want to give me $450 to trade it in? LOL... $650 loss just like that.

when are they going to give us the real upgrade? you know... the one where you upgrade your iOS on your old device without your battery draining in 2 hours.

I’m in for the new one. Have an 11 Pro, moving up to 12 Pro. I’m in the IPhone upgrade plan since buying the 11 pro, so I’ll just keep playing along (and paying along too)...
