Harry's razors
I figure some of you might like this:
https://www.harrys.com/?ref=2a32bde5a4 A friend of mine was looking for a better razor to shave his head and came across Harry's. He turned me and a bunch of others on to it and it is, hands down, the best shave I've had. I used to use Mach3 blades, which would last about a week and I would have a 5 o'clock shadow by early evening. With these I am back to baby smooth and the stubble doesn't show up until the next morning. Wife is very happy with that. They last about the same amount of time, a week or so, but the replacement blades are a lot cheaper than the gillette blades If you do decide to get one and you use the link above, I get free blades for the referral. |

I wasn't going to bother but a bunch of others seemed to like it and the kit is $15 bucks. Then I looked at what I pay for gillette blades at Costco. This gives a very noticeably closer shave and it's cheaper. Much cheaper in the long run. |

Well in your case it is cheaper, there's no question. The mach 3s last a lot longer than just a week for me, though.
I guess it depends on your situation. If you're getting a closer shave with harry's razors and it's cheaper, then it's a no brainer. For me, each mach 3 lasts anywhere from 2-3 months for me. There's definitely a huge difference between a fresh mach 3 blade and a dull one a month later, but functionally it still fits my needs. I have to go over the skin a couple of times (both with grain and against grain) but it works for me. I've never had a barber shave with a straight razor, but I've heard great things about it. I'll definitely try it out one of these days! |

The reason I shared the link here is because I thought people might like it. I bought the Winston, which is aluminum and feels pretty sweet in my hand. The cost savings over Gillette is a buck a week, which I don't care about. But considering the razor is cheaper AND nicer, it's a win-win. Besides, it's German engineered and we all know that that means it's better! |

I don't shave everyday any more (every other) and they still last 2 weeks tops.

I'm reading about some people on here getting over a month on their blades?
I'm pushing my luck to get a week out of mine. Am I missing something here?

Huh, strange. I actually find the risk of shaving skin off to be the highest with a brand new blade - not a used, dull one. If I get too close to the lip area or if I accidentally brush the tips of my fingers across a brand new mach 3, I'll get some shaven skin.

I've been using the cheap, practically disposible, electric razors for a few years now. About once a week I use a regular razor to get the hairs that the electric one misses. Also someone sent me a pack of these Shavemate Titan 6 razors when I was in Afghanistan. It seems like a gag that it has 6 blades and shave cream in the handle, but it actually was a really good, close shave. The shave cream sucks though. You can get them at Target.

I wasn't bringing it up because I was looking for a cheap razor. I was looking for a better razor. It happens to have less expensive blades than what I was using and they work much better. With the Mach 3 blades I have to shave daily or I look scruffy. With this I can get away with skipping a day if I so desire.
If I was just after cheap I'd be driving a Honda Civic. I've tried a lot of different razors and none have given as close a shave as these. |

i'd still recommend razors from http://www.dorcousa.com/sxa5000-sxa5...ge-combo-pack/
they're cheap and they work pretty well. the best part is all dorco cartridges are compatible with their handles so you can mix and match 3, 4, or 6 blade cartridges depending on your use. i used to use a merkur safety razor and haven't touched it since. |

I like straight razors
I got a 'safety' straight razor right now; once I get better at it, I'll go use a non safety one. even with the safety one I have cut myself lol.. it's not as easy to shave this way..

My Gillette mach 3 lasts more than a month as I only shave 2-3 times a week.
You blade can last for a year if you shave once every 3 months and store in a moisture free box.

Biggest reason blades will go dull is water.
I get a few weeks out of mine by making sure I dry them immediately after use. Promise they will go longer than if you just toss them onto the shelf wet especially if you shave in the shower. Like the look of Harry's Winston kit. May try it out.
