Perhaps it will be listed on Bring a Trailer with the headline, One of Two and likely only rear wheel steering left on the planet! The color alone plus manual transmission makes it worth saving.

This is 1 of 43 E39 Alpina B10 V8S made in Touring flavour. With 309k km (192k miles), and being decommissioned for years, this rare gem has been through a lot. Well, we are on a journey to completely mechanically restore it, and in this episode, we restore many rear suspension components, perhaps, to a better-than-new standard.

kinda crazy to me to spend all that time restoring the original exhaust. with a ZF8 trans and a new car color, the car is never going to maintain its originality and I don't think that part matters personally. it's just there's really nothing special about that exhaust, it wasn't even done by the end of this video, still needed to be welded. seems the effort would only be worth it if you were aiming for a complete original equipment restoration.

That's the usual approach with an Alpina; you aim to keep everything original as much as possible, especially any parts that are stamped Alpina.

He's probably gonna have the rear cans baffled differently for some sound. Having a modern transmission behind the V8 will allow it to be used more and get better gas mileage.

I have a seen a few folks out there putting ZF8's behind muscle cars from the 70's with success.

I've ceramic coated a garbage can lid!

Not as a plan, just because I had an applicator full of coating and was done with the car, and the garbage can happened to be nearby.

I've been considering the shower glass but that's getting a little too far off topic.

Which is why enthusiasts love his channel, his degree of thoroughness, attention to detail and sense of humor brings us back to watch his videos. He makes a car better than OEM and he drives them as the should be driven.

Saving the car is also huge, also not caring about mileage.
He starts at a real low point, what others would consider scrap, and brings the thing back to life. He does it with passion and care. He himself is as geeked as the viewer for bringing something back from the scrap heap. We live vicariously through him.
The amount of times I’ve seen a broken down sad looking vehicle by the side of the road or buried deep in someone’s rural property and think “if only I had the time/space/money/resources I would save the poor thing”, but I can’t.
There’s something especially soothing about his work, no matter what choices he makes - as someone mentioned above - it’s a cathartic experience.
