Best Daily out of these?

I'm looking at one of these so far to replace the FL5 TYPE R. As great as it is I get way more 6 speed thrills from the G87 I just got.

I drive about 60% of the time on the highway. It has to be AWD, auto and new.

These are in no particular order.

1) BMW 330i xdrive
2) Volvo S60 recharge
3) Audi S5 Sportback
4) Golf R

Do you need practicality? If yes, get the Golf R.
Do you value style over practicality but still want a good size trunk? Oh and have the extra cash? Get the S5.
Do you value comfort over everything? Get the Volvo (my mom is on her 4th XC60 and they are absolutely great cars).
Do you need a BMW? Get the 330i.

S5 sportback would be a good compliment to the G87.

If you liked the Civic Type-R and it was practical enough for you, I would go with the Golf R - cheapest of the bunch, as practical as the CTR and it probably the most fun to drive. With that being said, its AWD system is probably the worst of the bunch, so depending on your need and expectations from AWD you might be better off with the S5.

Used S5 Sportback with supercharged 6 or 2025 with turbo 6? The practicality of the Audi or VW hatchbacks would be my choice if a 6 speed manual RWD M2 was my other car. I’d probably go for the Audi 6 cylinder over the VW 4 cylinder just because I like torque and autos seem to work better with more torque.

There was no S5 Sportback with a supercharged 6 in North America.

Looks like most are saying S5. I drove one twice and liked it besides no steering feel at all.

Lots of them out there so maybe the deals are good with the new S5 ariving soon.

S5 or Golf, because of the hatch and how much practicality that adds. You'll get more in an S5, the Golf will cost less and be more efficient.

i like the S60 recharge. the ability to go full EV (with instant ev torque and no turbo lag) in town is very nice and really makes the cabin quiet and refined. if you like music the bowers and wilkins stereo is jaw dropping. the audi b&o and bmw hk are nowhere close to the in cabin audio experience that volvos give.

the caveat with volvos is the reliability. i wouldn't want to own it out of warranty.

I would like to listen to the bowers & wilkins but every car I see is equipped with hk.

I don't think anyone can answer what's best out of that list without actually owning (or at least driving) all 4. But I do have a Golf R and can vouch for it being an outstanding daily driver, and checks all your boxes. My current '19 has 71k miles on it and I put 50k on a '16 before that, and they've both been almost flawless and totally reliable.

I wouldn't buy any of them, but if I had to pick from your list, it'd be the golf R

330i is a slow dog with a cheap interior. 340i or bust IMO.
Volvo's are unreliable and owned by a Chinese company. I wouldn't wish that ownership hell on my worst enemy.
Audi S5 Sportback does nothing for me. No issue with it, but it just, doesn't excite me at all.
Golf R is fine, but it's better with a manual. It's also very expensive for not being a very premium car.

Personally I would probably go with something totally different. If you have a G87, why buy another small, sporty car? Buy something that's more different and thus a better companion vehicle.

I'm interested in what you would go with. I have been down the suv path and it's just not my thing.

Honestly I'd probably go with a larger vehicle. If you don't want an SUV, maybe a larger sedan or wagon? A Charger GT AWD would save a ton of money and give you more space. An A4 Allroad gives you some premium and some wagon space, plus AWD and fake offroader cred for smash through snowdrifts. Subaru has the Outback that's the ubiquitous choice for a tall wagon snow vehicle that lasts. Having something that has hatchback space and a larger size would really pay dividends.

That said, there isn't really a lot of things like this that aren't SUVs. If you open yourself to an SUV there's a lot of great options, depending on what you want to spend, how big you want to go, and how fast/nice you want. A nicely equipped Grand Cherokee is a great winter vehicle, Edge ST is an absolute bargain for a sporty and nice SUV, there's a whole market full of great options for efficient and nice AWD SUVs. Hell, you could even go with an X3M40i which is probably the best all around vehicle in the BMW lineup right now.

Why? Why does everyone think they need an SUV? There's an Audi dealership near me, I went there back when I was shopping the RS...nothing on their lot but Qs.

Y'all need car jesus.
