Time for a New TV

Good morning All,

Looking at buying a new tv as our 65in Sony Bravia 4K Ultra HD 3D Smart LED TV has seen better days. Picture is just okay. The smart controls are dated and slow.

We have Samsung tv's throughout the whole house and would prefer that to be the TV manufacturer to replace the Sony.

I am looking for a TV that has a WOW picture and is fast! I would like to watch a football game and be amazed at the picture quality and vibrant colors. I like the Samsung smart tv apps.

I have a very nice Samsung 3.1 Channel sound bar with Wireless sub (HW-T650) connected to the Sony tv that I am still trying to dial in to get the perfect sound.

Budget is around $1500.

Thank you!

check out TCL. I've had the 55 inch version of the below and the picture, sound and overall ease of use is amazing. Read reviews on it.

Just go to Costco and buy the one that fits your budget.

Not really a bright room. We have the ability to close the curtains if need be.

We usually watch the tv at night and sporting events at night. So the bright room wont be a factor. Just looking for a WOW picture and a quick refresh rate.

For TVs I’ve always been a Samsung myself but got an LG CX 55” OLED earlier this year and it’s awesome. Put the new gen C1 on your list of TVs to look at while you’re shopping.

QLED in Sunroom all day with no problem.

Go with Costco, I had bought a OLED and returned it the next day... and got the QLED.

A few years old model and still great pictures.

We got the 55" also for our living room and I am surprised at how good it looks. Better than my 82" LG in FL. Good black levels also.

Now I'm looking for one for the home theater and I'm between the 85" Samsung QLED or the 77" LG C1 OLED. It will be in the basement so no issues with light and the LG is smaller but it's OLED and about $1k cheaper than the Samsung I'm looking at.

I taped out the wall with the size of the 77 and 85 and honestly it's a minimal size difference when you see it on the wall. Dunno...

Try using these settings:

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sa...-qled/settings

I used their settings for either my Hisense or TCL LCD TVs and don't have any complaints.

I have a 60" Sony Bravia LCD, I bought it in 2010 and it's still going strong. I often wonder how much longer it will last. I've probably jinxed myself by posting this.

I had a Pioneer 50" 1010HD I just junked. The TV was a plasma and still "worked". The only issue was severe burn in that was caused by my ex allowing our daughter to touch the remote. She had put the TV in a mode that ran the TV in super retina burning mode. The TV was never the same after and got progressively worse. I bought that TV back around 2003 or so for about $6000.

I still have a Pioneer 60" 141FD running strong that I replaced the 1010HD in the family room. I bought that the year Pioneer announced they were exiting the TV business which was about 2008. This TV still produces a very good picture that still rivals or bests many of the TVs on the market today.

Bought a Sony 65" OLED A90J which was Sony's top of the line TV until the recent introduction of the A95K. The picture on this TV is just absolutely stunning. Had the TV ISF calibrated by the well known D-Nice from AVS Forum in collaboration with Value Electronics where I bought the TV from.

QD-OLED panel's are about to be coming to market. I wouldn't buy a new TV until they are out. They are going to blow everything away.

They're either repurposed for other uses or they're junked by taking them to the local waste processing center. These facilities here have an area where I can drop off unwanted electronics for them to recycle/dispose of properly.

Per the above, if I upgrade a TV, the previous TV gets moved to another room which would also be an upgrade over the TV there. I don't upgrade TVs often. For my big screens, I usually buy pretty much the best TV at the time and sit on it for years. It took severe burn in with my now junked Pioneer 1010HD for me to decide to upgrade. I moved the Pioneer 141FD that is in my A/V room to the family room where the 1010HD was. Then purchased the Sony A90J to go in the A/V room.

This. We have a smaller (32") old sony tv that is just in a closet somewhere, but all other tvs are repurposed. The very first flat screen (LCD) I bought is a 47" monster that has been going strong since 2007 and is now in the garage, still going strong. PQ sucks by today's standards but I'm just lifting weights or working on cars in there, so it's fine.

Back to the OP, i've been happy with my LG OLED and it's right around $1500 if you wait for the sale price that comes around numerous times a year. Though I haven't used the smart features at all so can't comment on those.

LG manufactures many of the OLED panels for various manufacturers including Sony. The specific panel in my A90J is an LG sourced panel manufactured to Sony's specs with Sony's electronics layered on top of it. My panel is unique for the panels of the same generation as it has a heatsink on the panel itself to allow the panel to be driven to brighter levels and allow heat to be dissipated.
