My DW goes from it being too hot inside to it being too cold inside...and back to being hot again...in the course of an hour...with the thermostat set to 21C/70F and holding temperature perfectly.
We're in windows season right now, where the windows are open during the days and cracked open at night. The day that the windows are closed all day/night and the inside temperature falls to 18C/65F when we wake up is when the heat gets turned on and set to 21C/70F.....

As to OP, we usually crank on the heat for a few weeks in December and January. Fireplace gets us through for the rest of winter. Plus, it's all kinds of romantic with a fire. |

This may be be due to less humidity in Phoenix but in the summers we set the AC to 79day/77night and it’s completely off in the winter months, can’t remember the last time I turned the heater on in the winter. I crack my window open in my room during the winter unless it gets into the 30s.
That being said, I’m not spend another summer in this furnace so I’m a bit interested in what changes once I moved to a more humid state in the spring. |

Being in Texas the A/C runs constantly. We never have our windows open because it's just too hot even at night most of the time.
I wish we could live with our windows open more. We have 3 Trane units allset to 75 during day and 70 at night. The heater automatically switches on if the temps drop 4 degrees below that threshold. Our units are two stage compressor units. So they run at either 100% or 50% to conserve energy. My energy bill got cut by 2/3 going to 2 stage units. They're also more reliable (though just slightly less efficient) than variable compressor units. |

And also, if you move, it takes a while for you to get used to commie numbers anyway, plus all thermostats in Canada are in Fahrenheit anyway, so there wouldn't be a chance or a need to learn the numbers socialists use. Bad advice, 2/10. Would not recommend. |

When the temperature gets to around 15 degrees in the house that's when I usually turn on the heat. Right now it`s still staying around 18-20. I have been using the fireplaces on and off for about 2 weeks.

Luckily the wife and I are on the same page with temperatures. Now that fall has arrived in SC we probably won't run anything for a while lol. Our house is just an extension of the outside and we deal with it. In the summer we don't turn the air on til the house temp reaches 78. I remember we had our real estate agent over to sign docs and I saw a bead of sweat developing on his forehead - immediately ran to the thermostat to turn on the air lmao. Now at night we run it around 69 in the summer. But again in the fall we just let it ride. Could wake up and it be 50 degrees in here lmao, but that's what clothes are for. Then we just throw on a sweater, brew some fresh coffee, open the windows and let the birds chirp!

I'm holding off as long as I can. It usually goes on about Thanksgiving, that's mid October here in commie metric land. I don't think were going to make it to November 1st since the temps are dropping at night now.

turned mine on briefly the other day, I had left for the weekend and two windows were open and the temps had drooped in the high 30's so house was cooler than normal. Temps in the area have resumed to fall like so it was just that time.
