But as I got a bit older I started to loosen up and buy some generic products here and there, just to see, and I can say without a doubt that it was always a mistake. Name-brand products are always better in my experience.

Now, my wife will buy off-brand this or that, small things that make almost no difference, and I'm ok with that, but myself, if I'm buying something it's always name-brand, no exceptions.

So you would buy Dixie brand cups over the generic version? I'm sorry but that makes no sense

I didn't know that about Heinz, but that works for me. I've tried many and nothing else works for me. Generally, I'm pretty flexible, but not in this case.

By generic, do you mean a BMW that is not an M? I’ll admit I’ve made that mistake a time or two (or 20)

Costco is Top Tier gas in California as well. I get gas while my wife shops. It's between $0.60 and $0.90 a gallon less than Chevron, Shell, and 76.

In a previous position at work, one of my duties was procurement of some of our private label stuff. Some were identical to the national well known brands, some inferior and some to a higher standard (at a cheaper price). In my current role, my team sells and services janitorial equipment. It's not unusual to have 1 company make something for 10 different brands. The internals are exactly the same and only the outer shell is different. The price delta can be as much as 50% between the brands.

We buy some generic or store brands (prescriptions included) and some only national brands... Crest toothpaste and Irish spring soap come top of mind, but I'll use store brand shampoo

Keureg pods we'll buy both generic and national brands. Foods are normally not generic

a buddy of mine works for a window company, they have their street/national brand, and they make a line by the same name for one of the big home improvement stores. Even though they're the same brand and name, the quality is NOT the same. their built to a wholesale price point

You buying an M4 over say, a Kia Stinger GT makes no sense to me. ;

Seriously though, are you ever going to get over the fact that peoples' choices can be different that yours and that's okay? I thought you would have figured that out after your epic "Why would anybody stay in a hotel?" thread.

News flash: We don't have to make sense to you and certainly, you don't have make sense to us.

Why don’t you answer the question instead of attacking me for no reason? What value do you get by buying Dixie vs generic paper goods?

Brand name paper products like Chinet, Dixie and Bounty and better quality than generic in my experience. For example brand name paper plates like Dixie are less likely to get saturated with food or liquid. Same goes for paper cups being less likely to leak.

I definitely do not buy generic toilet paper. Ask me why.

Glad you asked! When I was in the Army, our C-Rations included a little wad of toilet paper - generic toilet paper. It was like wiping your ass with a newspaper, but without the news.

This post made me realize... I don't do much shopping. My gf pretty much buys all the groceries and the stuff I buy is 99% from Amazon. So it's hard to think of stuff I buy where I need to decide between brand name and generic. I can only think of the heart burn pills I buy which is generic, batteries typically generic and my oatmeal which I sometimes buy myself and get the generic walmart brand.

So I guess the answer is yes.

Bidet is a life changer! I installed one on all my toilets before COVID hit, that was a very good decision. Being Filipino it isn't a new concept, but a lot better than a giant cup!

Re bidet, a simple alternative solution is just to have wet toilet paper (and no, not like some idiots in another forum, one-use only like using reg toilet paper, wet beforehand w clean water obviously, not toilet water, again, like those idiots in another forum would say to try to derail from this genius/simple/but effective idea). Simple, no need to buy extra gadgets/occupy space, liquid+manual application>>>just spraying the hole. If desired, rinse off w shower head while taking shower.

You're welcome.
