Do you open the car door for women?

What's the main reason you hold the car door for a girl? I saw a man open the car door for his women and shut it after she sat down. Its chivalry I get it, but I feel like the whole car door thing is a little extreme.... maybe not? My fiance certainly would not like this but everyone is different. Holding the door for your SO/someone walking into the store makes sense, because your walking into the same door.

I occasionally open and close the car door for my wife, more likely to do so on "date nights". I always open the door to businesses and let my wife walk in first. I do it because I love, respect, and want to take care of her. She doesn't need me to in the least but still appreciates it. I also hold doors for other people, never have had a bad reaction. In my early 30s here and have been married 11 years.

Your thread title doesn't match the poll. I always open a door to a building for Wifey, but I only open the car door if she's carrying something or it's raining and I'm holding the umbrella.

It's called respect. I do it for the wifey all the time. I will say out here in OH I've seen plenty of guys treat their wives like shit by opening the door for themselves and not even holding it long enough for the wife to walk in as the door closes. Than the husband gets upset because I'll catch the door and hold it for her. Nothing more embarrassing when his wife thanks me

I usually open doors for my wife.

Agree with the other married guys, if its the car my wife will generally open her own door unless we are walking up to the car on the same side together.

I do it all the times regardless of doors. With car doors I don’t always do it but I do most of the times.

Opening the door is obligatory if possible and a manner of respect.

I think this post has a lot of confusion going on because the Poll is asking for car door, but thread title states doors in general. Nice job OP:thumbsu p:

Being older and on the other side, I appreciate that my man opens the car door for me. He's a gentleman, and that's what they do. He won't let me carry packages unless his hands are full, and even then it's a battle because he would gladly make an extra trip. If we are walking outside, he will always make sure he is on the side closest to the street. It's little things that get lost today. It's respect.

I don't understand the younger females. How is it offensive if a man is being a gentleman?

Since we first met 51 years ago, for some reason we've always had each others back and have been close friends. Once married she has done no less than enhanced my life. i've always open the doors for her, and since her knee replacement, even more now.

The girlfriend and I have been together for 3 years in August. I opened the door to the car for her the very first time she sat in my car and have done so every single time since, no exception. I have witnessed other women noticing my car door open-ry for the girlfriend and give their men dirty looks after; or on occasion, I will hear a lady say "Why don't you do shit like that for me?" This is usually followed by a look of disgust/"I should be like this guy" from the male.

I try to open entryway doors for her unless she has positioned herself to where I can't get to the door. If there is another female within proximity, I will open the door or hold the door for them as they enter.

If I see her carrying anything, I take it out of her hands and carry it for her.

Reasoning: I was raised to be a gentlemen and respectful of other people......until they give you a reason not to be. My father was a ladies man and this is what I was taught as a young lad. Even if you are pissed, she is in the wrong, just kicked you in the sack or whatever, you still do it....every single time. I'm not saying I'm not an asshole because I genuinely hate most people but I give them the benefit of the doubt before they show their true colors.

Also unsure if how I approach, speak to or respect women has any direct correlation to how often I have sex (which is daily) but I'm sure it doesn't hurt. I act like a gentlemen outside of the house and like a filthy, demented, sexual force of nature otherwise.

All the time. My wife teaches Cotillion, and they still teach this to all the boys in the class. I live in a small town in the south so our woman folk aren't too "woke" to allow a gentleman to hold the door for them.

Every single day, every single time, for the last 6 months since my wife got frozen shoulder...

Before that, not so much. She jumps out the car before I can even get myself out. She's a fast walker and is commonly a 1/2 step ahead of me and ends up opening doors first. We don't really think about it. It's kinda like whomever gets there first opens it for the other.

Nor do any of us guys. It seems to me to be a matter of convenience. When it's convenient to complain about being able to open one's door by herself as a strong, empowered, woman then that's the route they take. But God forbid anything heavy needs to be moved or anything needs to be assembled and it's 100% expected that a guy will just take care of it. No thought given to helping what so ever. I see this nearly every day at work with the 30 and under crowd. Saw it just yesterday when we had 30 or 40 boxes (each about 5 pounds) that needed to be lifted onto a pallet in time for UPS to come pick it up. An e-mail for help went out to the whole company of roughly 30 men and 30 women. 6 or 8 guys showed up to help and not a single woman. It's like that every single time.

I've told this story before I think but one of the most vocal females on my team had a motorized standing desk ordered for her. It showed up in a big heavy box at the front desk. Instead of assuming she couldn't handle it I simply told her it had arrived and where to find the toolbox for assembly. Within 5 minutes she had a couple of my engineers suckered into carrying it over, unboxing, and assembling for her whole she sat in the lounge working on her laptop.

I interviewed a woman earlier this week who was in her late 40s early 50s, judging by her resume and the years in which she was in college. We got to chatting about hobbies outside of work at the end of the interview. Turns out she's been riding dirt bikes for years and was excited about having just put a new clutch in her KTM. She also remodeled her kitchen, doing the majority of the work herself. Total bad ass. Much respect for her!
