Roomba - Does this thing suck or what?

CAT x 2 + DOG = Constant Vacuuming
I'm seriously considering a robot vacuum but they sound too good to be true. I'm not set on a particular brand but crave something that'll:
-get up pet hair
-do multiple rooms
-not get stuck
-not suck up lamp cords.

I'm in a single level townhouse that's nearly all carpet. Anyone have real world experience with these willing to share your opinion? Sort of a deal-or-dud question I guess.

We have cats and thought of getting one of those until we read reviews about what happens when it hit the inevitable pile of kitty barf. Supposedly, it then tracks the barf along its path for a few feet. That's bad enough on hardwood. Think what it'll do to carpeting.

It is worth it. 3 cats (WTF) plus a dog with both soft and hard surfaces. I figured it to be a gimmick, but buying through Amazon let's me send it back if it (doesn't) suck.

Seems nuts to spend $300 on a vacuum, but literally put it in the room, hit the go button, and it gets every square inch of space with zero effort short of emptying it. The one we have can be controlled through Wi-Fi, so if I feel like a clean house, just open the app while at work and the place is set by the time we get home. When it's done, it goes back to its charging station even.

Totally worth the coin.

I do not own one but have considered. Those that I know that have one AND that have pets ALL have horror stories of the thing encountering poo on the carpet. Picture this, a robot dragging around soft poo on your carpet accompanied by a rotating brush that swirls and pushes into your carpet all while covering every square inch of your floor. Then there is the cleaning of poo out of the roomba. Those I know that have experienced this all said the same thing. They would rather just vacuum/sweep on their own not to have to clean this mess again.

Just make sure you buy from a retailer with an excellent return policy. I read an article about a guy's Roomba running over poop and the only saving grace was that he bought it from Costco.

that mostly happens to people who program the roomba to run at night or while they're out of the house. it's easy enough to combat the barf / poop mines by simply doing a quick walk-around inspection before launching the roomba and then going on with whatever else you want to do besides vacuuming

Some of the comments under that video are gold. Pure gold.

Also surprising to see how many YouTube results you get from "roomba poop."

Coworker of mine has it for his cat and dog. He said he loves it and no longer has to look at cat hair accumulating on the hardwood floors. He pretty much has it programmed to run every other day. Only issue he had was his daughter left a pair of g-strings on the ground and it vacuumed it up causing it to get stuck and stopped along the hallway. He was embarrassed because his buddy picked it up and pulled the g-string out and held it in the air with a smirk on his face lol

Truth. I say that I could do the programmed thing or tell it to go while at work, but the truth is that we have yet to run it without us being home. No problems here!

Now if it could only vacuum up the cats themselves, your problems would be solved permanently...

we use ours all the time. bought the first one a couple years back. bought another this last year.

Use it on our downstairs that is a combo of hardwood, rugs and carpet and it transitions no problem, and use it on our upstairs that is all carpet no problem.

set it to run while we are home for an hour or so every other day so we can stop it if it picks up something it shouldnt.

havent vacuumed in years now.

We have one and love it.
They will grab up cords, or strings from cat toys, but otherwise it's been a great addition.

The cats are totally over it, to the point where they don't even move and let it bounce off of them. The dog, a 100LB Shepweiller, never did get used to it. No telling what relationship your pets will have I guess...

I guess we are the only people that crate our dogs at night and when we are gone?

They can't be trusted to stay focused on their toys and not destroy other stuff, so the poop/barf thing isn't a concern. But we have "baby gates" up to the master and end of the other hallway to my office, so a roomba would never work.

I do want one of those awesome Dyson vacuums designed specifically for pet households, but can't bring myself to spend $500 on vacuum.
