I work for an investment bank, and our minimum hold time is even worse -- 90 days for stocks and 5 days for ETFs!!!

In addition, pre-approval is required for all equity and fixed income securities, including ETFs, and all options purchased or sold must have an expiration date at least 90 calendar days from the date of purchase or sale.

All bond/equity trades must be pre-approved (can take up to 48hrs) but we can trade ETFs at will.

I don't know...as an outsider to this industry, why would I want my advisor to be able to dump his stock before mine or to put him/herself in front of me.

I don't really see a problem with the holding periods - makes you guys actually do some work to pick good stocks instead of just guessing and gouging by putting all of your trades ahead of mine so I get an even lower stock price when my trade finally goes through.

I don't have any sympathy for Wall Street and other traders.

This is about my company's rules to a T.
