F44 M235 Tuning / Modifications

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Anybody out there had any mods or tuning on their new M235s?

Curious to see if anybody out there has made any major changes to their car since they got it as majority of garages I'm going to are at a slight unease in regards to working on it.

Been looking to possibly get some slight exhaust changes to allow the "pops" or "bangs" to fully come out but no luck so far.

Tuning currently is only really in the development stages in Scotland and not really keen on investing a chunk of money for small gains.

I wonder how stout this engine is and how much the transmission can handle?

I've actually just removed the connection for back left exhaust to open valve up. Obviously only time it opens up is in sport mode however if you take out the connector whilst cars on and in sport mode, leaves exhaust open full time.

Was looking at possibly getting rear resonator out but it's quite pricey in comparison to other cars my mates have got done...

I am keeping track. Bootmod3 recently released a working B48 engine mostly talking about the G20 3 series, but have yet to release an remap for the 306bhp variant that we have.

also any recent built DME will need to be bench unlocked rather than OBD unlock which is a shame. hopefully they figure out a way in soon so I can relock it again when servicing

I'm presuming it may take a while or so before any major mods come out then?

Seems to be minimal out there for both the F40 and F44 at this moment in time.

Ecotune is closest to me and at the moment can only produce an extra 30BHP and 40nm (29.5 ft/lbs), would hate to get stage 1 and months later it's increased in numbers. I'll wait for others to do the experimenting...

Yep this is correct, it will take some time to take bolt-ons and tuning sorted. by current tuners estimates and testing 360BHP and 520nm seems to be a safely reachable number. with bolt ons its anyone's guess.

I do reckon Stage 1 with bolt ons could definitely be approaching if not exceed 400BHP.

Pretty consistent with what most are looking at achieving out of the ECU for stage 1, shame it has to be removed and sent to a tuner to be unlocked. looking forward to someone cracking it so it can locked and unlocked via OBD port.

I'm running a maxed out jb+ atm. Another guy has a jb4 on his m35 x2. He's getting the EWG connector to do more testing with terry at BMS. My car is seeing close to 30psi in the mid range and tapering to 25/26 by redline. There a company called piper cross that makes a drop in filter for the f40. I cross referenced both filter part number and it's the same part. The high flow filter can be had for about 70$ shipped from the UK.

I have a 2021 m235i GC and installed the JB+ @ 4.5 psi setting (dial all the way...) My 0 - 60 times improved by about 0.4 - 0.5 seconds... from 5.2s to 4.8s. Now if I use the rollout (like the magazine reviewers do) it's 4.9-5.0 down to 4.4s. So it definitely was an improvement overall. Car seems to run fine after 1 month of use. Seems I'm not seeing launch control pop up like it should... so I'm not sure if my 0 - 60 times are optimal... Car was set to Sport Mode, Slide Shifter over, turn off DTC... hold down brake, floor it... wait... then release brake to launch. I just see the street name I'm on where it suppose to say launch ready or whatever... doesn't do like what I see in the vids.

Okay... just did another 0 - 60 run today.... launch control active this time... 4.67 seconds ... so the car does 0 - 60 4.6s in accordance with the manufacturer ... seems to clunk hard when shifting from 1st into 2nd... than normal?

Was that a stock map run, or on JB+? Curious to see...I have an X2 M35i and have yet to use launch control.

That was stock... I took the JB+ off ... seems after I took it off... I didn't get launch control active on the dash... after driving it a while... the next day it came up... :/ weird Just wanted to see if the JB+ made a difference...

Launch not working or inactive: stock ~5.2 - 4.9
Launch control working: stock ~4.9 - 4.6 JB+ ~4.8 - 4.4
Car & Driver use the 3mph (12ft) rollout... and that's ~ 0.25-3 sec of a difference in times. Then they average both directions and adjust for ambient weather & altitude conditions. How they get the car down to 4.2 secs in that review with the Cadillac and AMG A35 is a mystery unless the adjustments did the magic so it seems the JB+ gives you about 0.2 - 0.5 secs off your 0 - 60 depending on how the launch goes and shifting. Sometimes I get this CLUNK from 1st to 2nd... real hard shift... and sometimes it'll chirp.

Funny...this past May, 2 months after I got the X2 we moved from San Diego to North Dallas. I work from home and I drive so little, I never hit the 20 minutes drive time warm up limit in order to use the launch control. One of these days, I guess. Thanks for sharing, enjoy the car in good health!

Yeah I drive it around for a while before I test... which is usually the case anyway since I Have to wait until the street is clear for a run LOL! Launch control worked all the time... then when I disconnected the JB+ to retest the car stock ... it wasn't coming up until the very next day... then it started working again... maybe the ECU reset did something Dunno :/

If you didn't let the car go to sleep before unplugging electrical components, the car will throw a hidden fault until it sleeps. You should be disconnecting the battery before doing any work on electrical on these cars.

Hello BlownLSD... I didn't disconnect the battery, but did the 'lock the doors while the hood was up and keep the pod far away for at least 5 minutes'... that should of worked eh?

If the start stop button/hazard buttons were still lit up it wasn't long enough.

Ive done a few tests with launch control (and otherwise) and the 1/2 shift is def hard!

With a proper launch, this car is damn quick out of the gate. I honestly think it will take my stock LT1 to 40-50 (maybe even 60) mph.

I ordered one right before I posted. Bms does their research and testing I doubt they would release an untested product.

What about the one from Eventuri? They seem to have good reviews to. Too expensive for you? Lol.
