Um....you drive a 328i correct? The only IS you're going to beat is an IS 200. I've owned a G35 as well...you're not going to beat them either, unless you have done some tune work. If you're bone stock, you might beat an IS 200, if the other driver can't drive.

It's impossible to know if you did any harm. You didn't do it any favors, I'm comfortable saying that. Revving a cold engine is just a bad idea. I'm also of the opinion that it's not a great idea to rev an engine really hard with no load on it, but there's a variety of opinions about that. My main objection is that it's got such a high douche quotient to it, when someone's sitting at a stop light or in a parking lot or a garage and revving the tits off an engine. It's right up there with the Harley doofuses who blip their throttles every 4 seconds while they're sitting at a traffic light. If they'd all just get t-shirts with "I've got a 3-inch dick" printed on both sides and stop blipping their throttles incessantly, the world would be a quieter, better place.

True, the 328i isn't fast. I test drove an IS250 and an IS350 (the first gens) a few years ago and while the 350 was faster it sucked. Throttle response and transmission programming was just terrible. The IS250 I actually thought was a 4 cylinder. I'm not a big guy, but my head was practically touching the B pillar, not sure how anyone 6 feet+ would even fit in those.

G37 is much quicker and better sounding than all of the above, but I hated the twitchy-ness of the steering on center of the few I drove at highway speeds and the seating position was a bit odd. The 7-speed auto in those also seems to never know what gear it wants to be in.

We all know Rudi is here because the Lexus forum is full of non-car guys though.

You aren't wrong! Club Lexus is full of dolts! I might spend 5 minutes a month on there. There are a couple of guys on there that have outdone themselves on their cars. Aside from that, it's pointless. BMW owners and Lexus owners are not of the same caliber.

Side note: There is a Russian on Club Lexus that bought 2 totaled Lexus's. One was an RC350, the other was an IS350. He straight up, combined the two cars into one. He got tired of waiting on Lexus to release an IS-F, so he made his own. Crazy amount of work, but he pulled it off.

I'm not surprised by the relative lack of knowledgable enthusiasts on the Lexus forum, compared to here. It's just not a brand that's ever attracted a lot of enthusiasts. Aside from a few stunning low-volume cars, their line is BOOO-ring. On a personal note, I think the "Spindle-O-Doom" front end design theme is hideous...and I'm not alone.

Interesting. I will admit the IS350 isn't a fast car (0-60-wise), but with an 8 speed transmission, it comes to life once you get it over 80.

Currently driving the 2nd IS. The 2nd gen seemed to be considerably faster than the 3rd. I have no hard evidence and haven't bothered to look it up, but based off ownership experience; the 3rd gen is only as fast as the 2nd gen if sport + is activated. Driving in normal mode is like driving an IS 250 and driving in eco is like driving an Accord.

It does seem that most Lexus owners are only interested in reliability and a smooth/quiet ride, that's it. The IS owners want to go fast(er) but the IS was not designed to be tuned....at all. With lots of money and hours of work, it is possible to add 15 hp. My street cred driving the IS only comes from most people's lack of knowledge about cars.

Alot of Is and Gs cars that my class mates and friend's had were slammed and the the tires were stretched on 19 - 20 inch rims. Literally very small contact patch touching the road and they had to drive like retards everywhere. I use to jump railroad tracks and redline the e90 right when i was coming up to the tracks so i can get airtime. They would go zigzag and scrape their muffler delete pipes or lip. Those toyota V6 do have power but it isnt linear as my e90. On a highway if I was to race a lexus. I sure wouldnt feel as safe and stable gapping or cutting cars without my E90. Lexus is a very chill car with power. I always wanted one just to put wheels and a tanabe exhaust, then go get Ramen or Boba or raves.

I think as a brand it just attracts a different crowd, nothing wrong with that. BMW attracts people who enjoy driving performance and the driving experience, while Lexus is more reliable appliance luxury.

Since signing up here on Bimmerpost, I'm surprised by the number of folks who actually wrench on their Bimmers and/or do non-trivial mods. I guess I had fallen prey to the stereotypes about us. I've been a Ford guy for decades and there are some serious wrenches on a couple of the Ford forums, but I'm glad there are some wrenches here too. I haven't done serious wrenching on my Bimmer yet, but I'm not opposed to the idea of doing so once it's out of warranty - which will be some time this winter I'm thinking. My hoist is rated to 8,000 pounds, so there's no telling what sort of mischief I may get into. It's definitely a vehicle worth skinning my knuckles on.
