530d running strange ?

I have just recently bought a 530d auto which had a tuning box fitted to it but ther was a lot of black smoke coming from it so I decided to remove it. I first took it out a drive and it seemed to have sorted the problem with the smoke but after driving about 10 miles the car began acting very strange wen putting my foot hard to the floor the car was barely moving and not changing up it was still revving high I know the car will obviously be slower without the chip but this was worryingly slow. I then pulled over and turned the engine on and off and that was the car back to normal. Could this be the car going into a sort of limp home mode when noticing the differences due to the chip being removed. I'm worried and wondering whether to get the car checked out. Any help would be much appreciated thanks

Hi Mark,

Similar issues with mine. Threads to look for are, swirl flaps, turbo, egr valve, cables to injectors, mass airflow sensor...

The smoke could be a symptom of many things and yes, your car sounds like it went into limp home mode... You need to get the car plugged into a diagnostic machine to find out...

Let me know how you get on..
