Saw this on the news this morning. What an extraordinary life he lived. For someone to not allow a debilitating disease to beat him and continue his work is truly an inspiration to us all. This world needs more individuals with the drive this man had.

You should have asked this yesterday.

I find it mildly interesting that he died on Pi day (and Albert Einstein's birthday)

I wonder how Hawkings' condition impacted his work. Obviously, ALS isn't something anybody wants, but I think his condition gave him focus behind his work.

I can totally see your point in creating a focus. I'm an artist and have always used my downfalls in life as inspiration. Not that I am an accomplished artist or anything but my misfortunes/struggles in life always lead to my best work. I guess the point that I am making is that all too often in today's society, the general public will use such a condition to make excuses as to why they can't go on, make further progress or just allow someone else to take care of them. It's people who share this mentality of never giving up that inspires me to keep moving forward regardless of how shitty life and people can be sometimes.
