Do you use a straight razor?

Anyone use a straight razor at home? Dovo might be the way to go?

I have one (Thiers-Issard), great shave but more maintenance than I wanted for the daily. I mostly use a DE safety razor. I don't have personal experience with Dovo but they are very highly regarded in the razor world.

Not quite. I have trained my son to use the clippers on the back of my neck but I like the closeness of a straight blade. Bad idea?

Used to use a straight.

Think mine was called a Shavette and would buy disposable blades that were for the straight.

Those straight razors can get bloody if your not paying attention or if you inadvertently slide sideways.

Tried safety for a while. And still use it occasionally.

Now I shave in shower with disposable.

Harry's. Only way to go. Cheap and efficient for a couple weeks per blade.

This. If you are pressed for time in the mornings, not a wise investment as you will most likely cut yourself putting yourself further behind. I speak from experience. Extremely close shave, but there are no minor nicks with a straight razor. If a person has plenty of time and can be fully awake before shaving, they are nice. If neither of these apply to you, I advise to not using one. It only took me one time of slicing half my face off.

I got into double edge safety razor shaving about 6 months ago and I love it! I haven't gone down the rabbit hole of 400 different shaving creams, oils, etc, but fell into a nice little setup that works for me.

I was previously a dollar shave club guy but had always had problems with razor burn. Have you looked into them instead?

I have a Dovo shavette (body of a straight razor but uses replaceable blades like a DE). Haven't used it tons since I haven't had the time to practice w/ it. Mostly use my DE razor. STILL have plenty of blades from the blade sample pack I bought like 6 years ago.....it's never ending, I swear...

I made a thread about this last year. I truly wanted to use one. Spent some decent cash on a nice setup and quality blades. I haven't bloodied my face like that since I first began shaving in the early 90's! Went back to my tried and true Gillette Fusion Power which nave served me well for many years.

I use a Dovo straight razor and I'll never go back to the disposable razors!
I have really sensitive skin and it would always be red after shaving, no matter how much preparation I did and soaps/lotions I used.

The first time I used a straight razor it looked like I got out of a knife fight, but I got better with time. I suggest using an alum block for any cuts since it closes up the wound immediately.

Now I just shave with a straight razor, and use shaving soap and badger's hair brush. No lotions or aftershaves, and now after every shave my skin is not red or irritated. I just rinse off any remaining soap, dry my face and continue with my day.

i tried one under the guise of being able to return it if i didn't like it. i tried it for a solid three weeks and took it back. just didn't care for it or see a real benefit. it was a cheapish $150 setup, but i'm not a pretty boy that takes much time on his personal appearance.
