Reminds me of this FBI training vid from the '60s...not sure how much of this training is relevant today, but interesting concepts none the less:

So more like the 70's, check the cars. The concepts in this video are still in play now as the basics at least.

Shoulder holsters are the worst holsters to use. Impossible to efficiently draw your gun without muzzling someone, or yourself. We NEVER recommend shoulder holsters to ANYONE.
Why would you say technically guns at home should not be chambered?

Also, hey, secret agent cool to have a shoulder holster. I never had one but ever since the Man from U.N.C.L.E. I've wanted one.
For storage it's completely clear with no ammo, but for staging (home defense) it'll be as I described.

Unchambered because when the adrenalines rushing you may accidentally hit the trigger while grabbing it from the safe or drawer or whatever it's hidden in.

Check this out (officially, as in according to NRA and USCCA standards):

Lol please do not use a shoulder holster. You can use a drop leg holster for some tacticool points.

I don't understand the concept of staging? My handgun is always loaded, in a holster. Bedside gun, it's chambered. in a holster. I'll have to unholster it first before I can pull the trigger. To each their own. Training is the key.

It depends on the round with bullet setback. We're issued 357SIG which suffers from bullet setback if you constantly load and unload the same round. It doesn't seem to happen too much to other calibers. I know the .40 suffers from it too.

oh, just watched your video. i don't have ready access safes. my safes are for storage. My carry guns stay in their holster. When I go to bed, I take the holster off my belt and drop it on top of the nightstand.

Not worried about my kids, they've grown up around guns and know how to use them. If we're leaving the house, nothing is left out but when we're home, if it's not on my belt, it's on the nightstand. in a holster.

Finally decided to buy a handgun in May..took like three years to decide. S&W M&P9 2.0 Compact. I thought this gun, some ammo, and accessories would be all I’d get, but nope.

Went from 100 to 400 to 700 to 1200 rounds of 9mm, and I’ll be buying at least another 500 as soon as the next “deal” pops up.

I also accidentally ended up with this. 1943 Saginaw M1 Carbine with USGI mag pouch (1943 Avery), bayonet, and extra mags. I can’t justify spending $150 on a USGI sling, so a good $25 replica will do.

M1 Garand ordered thru the CMP, but there’s a large backlog so no idea when I’ll get mine. Currently have 550 rounds of .30 Carbine and 480 rounds of surplus .30-06.

.30 Carbine made in 1943

This hobby costs A LOT more than I expected.

That's why I put YMMV. you have to remember these recommendations are supposed to be for the masses ranging from beginners to experts. Anyone that asks that question (which is an excellent question to ask if you aren't familiar with these things) will most likely be your every day self defense purposed gun owner, not an enthusiast.

I have no doubt you are familiar with all the accidents which occur from mishandling and improperly storing/staging firearms in the home.

I believe the NRA and USCCA provide firearms safety instructions that are virtually idiot proof.

For those of us who are military, law enforcement or the like are very familiar with firearms since they are a part of our daily routines and we practice extensively the four safety rules (which most firearms owners probably can't remember).

Also keep in mind some states have varying laws regarding Staging/storage, particularly if there are kids in the home. You can’t just toss a loaded gun in the nightstand, holster or not, with kids around in CA by law (not that you should even if you can).

Excellent point. Same goes for Texas (surprising, I know).

If a firearm isn't properly secured here in Texas and a child (anyone under the age of 17) gets a hold of it and gets injured as a result, you'll be legally liable for negligence.

Most people will say their kids are taught to respect firearms and etc, and that's smart to teach them that, but you never know. So again (to the general public), YMMV.

Anyone finding any bulk deals on .223 or 9mm? Seems to be gone everywhere.

We’re in pandemic prices right now. A coworker offered me $0.40/round for some brass 223 ammo recently.

I use gunbot.net to search for ammo and a lot of stuff has been out of stock.

It did help me find a deal on 458. It was $1.80/round shipped. I only bought 100 rounds.

It's easier finding a threesome than reasonably-priced 9mm defense ammunition right now.

I can't find any .45ACP either.

In happier news. Hopefully I can pick up my Springfield 1911 TRP with a full rail on the 13th! I bought a Harrison Design slide stop with the anti-idiot scratch mod done to it so hopefully my dumb ass doesn't scratch the frame.

Pro tip about the idiot scratch.. use a business card to protect that spot, just in case. I put one on my Kimber the first time I ever disassembled a 1911. Doh. Wish I had tried it on my Springfield 1911 Mil Spec first.

Ammo is typically out of stock due to everyone panicking with the riots. I have multiple liberals friends (who were typically pro on anti gun policies) buy a gun from me (I'm a FFL). Makes me laugh. I did sell some personal stock of ammo to them so they would have something to shoot. Told them to get training as soon as they can.

Funny how the anti-gun folks all of a sudden want a gun. They are flying off the shelves here in Canuckistan as well. Can't get ammo right now, I'm not desperate but I'd like to pick up some 9mm, 38/357 and 5.56 just in case.

That's one of the reasons I believe we shouldn't listen to their demands. They demand changes that only work in certain situations and under certain conditions.

They aren't all encompassing.

And they will continue to vote for anti-firearm politicians who will dismantle their 2A rights even more.
