I have a pair of JLabs JBuds and they are excellent. They channel out a lot of outside noise and sit very comfortably inside your ear. I bought them off Amazon for like $20 or something.

For extended periods of time they can aggravate the ear canal. Your ears get use to them after several uses though.

They're nice for planes, trains, etc. While the 'noise canceling' feature are almost equal on all of them, sound quality greatly varies. I also like them for their size. roll them up, and put them in a small hard case.

Shure has a wide range of them.

IEM's, In ear monitors are pretty sick!! They block out pretty much all outside noise and depending upon how much dime u drop on them, sound amazing as well. I would recommend checking out Ultimate Ears and Shure. I have Shure E4's and I love them. I would kill for some Ultimate Ears triple fi 10 pros or shure SE530's.

iem's are the way to go if you need portability and want to cancel outside noise.

shure se500/530's are one of my favorites for universal fit iem's. comfortable and great sound quality. personally, i'm not a fan of the ultimate ears triple fi 10's. they are uncomfortable to wear, and do not reproduce a very accurate sound. my 2 cents.

They dont go that deep in... No deeper than ear plugs. In fact thats basically what they are with a hole in the center that allows the sound to come in..

Check out Shure's line up.. You have to spend some time getting the right fit into your ear and learn how to use them properly. At first its frustrating but once you get the right ear buds it become second nature on how to put them in properly.

Etymotics or Shure are good brands look at.

Do some research on:

www.headphone.com

Basically inner ear canal phones can be great and offer good external sound isolation. Not so good when you need to actually hear the background noises (telephone, traffic, etc). But it's good for when you are commuting on the plane.

Depending on budget they can provide good quality sound. Altho their bass is not as obvious as typical headphones...

The main reason they are better is because when you have the noise cancelling you only have to have your volume 1/4 as high to get a much better sound. This protects your hearing as well as your sanity if you are outside with a high wind or a lot of traffic.

I have the Shure SCL4 and I love them. They come with 5 different ear buds, one is pretty much guaranteed to fit. I like the foam ones myself, they never slip out and I do hard workouts with them in.
