I bought my 08 e60 535 a year ago and it currently has about 69k mi. I have had a couple issues with it but it is running really good right now. I definitely don't regret buying it. It's my first bmw although my wife has owned 3 bmw 's. I would find out if the high pressure fuel pump, injectors and water pump have been replaced. Also find if and when the intake valves were last cleaned. This is a direct injection engine and the intake valves will get carboned up. Happens to all direct injected engines not just bmw. I would say if it has been well maintained, at that price it may be worth it. Some things to look out for are long cranks while trying to start and a rough idle when it is first started. These could be signs of hpfp and injector problems.

Confused, you ask reliability then go off on a tangent, i'll answer the topic

106,000 miles, plenty of troubles. Just did the injectors, coils and plugs for $3400. Water pump was $1500. Right now it runs great, but I have not tuned it back to where i had it yet. Don't think I'd get another unless I was buying from a BMW mechanic. I bought a car from a dealer that did not know the car had all the recalls long ago and then it was all on me for out of warranty repairs.

Mine has 115,000km. In last 20,000 km or last 2 years I have replaced: water pump, coils and plugs. Typical maintenance. No problems with electronics or other areas. Expect suspension eventually, but I have had to do less wear and tear items on the 535 than my other vehicles. So I would say it has been more reliable than other vehicles.

2nd that on the GS350 - 160K and going strong - worth more to me than what I could get for it. Also on my second E60 - '09 535i Msport with mods. Fantastic car. Beats anything I could get now unless I spent 3x the $.
