So I see a small problem here...

I am sure the stealing phones business is rampant and these things do happen... but what if the seller truthfully bought a few phones from someone for resale and didn't know they were in fact stolen? Everyone is aware here that you can run an IMEI / Serial Number check in a database for all this info within minutes before buying, right?

Yeah, 'concealed'. Just wait until every asshole can open carry per our wonderful state legislature. Talk about intimidation factor and open bullying then.

It looks like only concealed permit holders can open carry in Texas now. I carry concealed in Virginia Beach and even though it's an open carry state I've never seen anyone with a gun on their hip. Same for N.C. and WVA. Most "bullies" like to put on a show and you can't really do that with a gun without some serious consequences. Texas is a little behind the rest of the country with open carry. Google Open carry states and you will see what I'm talking about.

If it's so easy to run the IMEI check then why wouldn't the seller do that before he bought them, he said he buys and sells phones so surely he has the experience to know that, I'm putting my money on the fact that he knew they were stolen. Even if he truly didn't know, between these two people he is the one to blame. If he got screwed too, he needs to talk to his supplier.

It goes both ways imo... i mean it's a Craigslist deal... my expectations are always low on Craigslist... Due diligence is needed from both sides... when I made a purchase like this once, I tested on the spot, ran the IMEI and verified warranty... I guess some people are just easy to sucker and later are quick to cry when they don't do their research.

He handed him 6 hundred dollar bills. I'm sure he didn't want to just look for 20s.... It was easier and move convenient for him.

That type of situation you want to be in and out. I honestly think a sale is AS/IS he seems like he didn't know what was going on and refunded him ASAP. People buy and sell so many times. My buddy same thing happened to him he bought a phone to flip tried selling it the same day and the guy was like this is bricked and etc. Tried calling the cops and we left. We had no idea what the hell just happened. Not everyone is guilty!

Yeah IDK man, not saying the buyer shouldn't be more cautious, but it's the sellers' responsibility, since they are the actual owner of the phone. It's kinda like if you were buying a car, gave the seller money and then he told you he didn't actually have the title for it, and didn't even know he was supposed to. It's the seller responsibility to know what he's selling.

Well imo the big difference here is that there is no way to prove that this guy was intentionally selling stolen phones... in your example, it's black and white, the dude has a title or doesn't... not exactly up for debate. I mean in the court of law, some lolyer could spin this 30 ways as there is no proof on anyone's side here.

So this is new to me... how do you run IMEI numbers to verify whether it's legit or not?

Just call the carrier and give them it and they will tell you or go online for example t mobile website and put in IMEI and they tell you if its clean.

The buyer is an IDIOT for not checking.

It's like buying a car and you find out it had an accident and want your money back.... Its the buyers due diligence to check not the sellers.
