Do you use Google Drive?

If you do - did any of your important files magically become "shortcuts?"

And if so, did you lose any of your files?

Google drive lost a very important spreadsheet of mine and their customer service has not been able to locate it. I pay for extra storage - have had this file for 8 yrs - after hours of customer service trying to figure out what happened - still nothing.

Google products in general are a disaster and good luck getting support on them. I've had a similar issue, and have never found the data again and this is on a Gmail account that's been active since gmail was invite only.

I suggest you look at backblaze for storing your files in addition to your google drive if you value your data.

I've been using Dropbox for years. 2TB of storage and I've had zero issues (knocks on wood)

Same here - i've used gmail since 1999 - drive was fine for me until it wasn't - been on the phone with them - they cannot find the spreadsheet I had access to days ago. I never thought i needed to back it up over the yrs of no issues - naive me.

I use Google drive but not really for important work related stuff. I use it more for photos and vacation planning or random lists.

I have used it for years. Everything I have on google drive I have stored somewhere else just in case something like this happens.

Hopefully Norbert is a real person who works for Google’s outsourced support provider.

I've been on the phone with them via the google drive chat app - directly from google. Not a scam.

Yes, never an issue for years. Maddening that it doesn't allow all true file operations like multiple folder selection and such. But never lost files to my knowledge. Have multiple accounts! But any critical data is also saved locally on removable media.

Good Luck

They found my 13 yr old file... Turns out it was originally created under my wifes maiden name/email address. They ran their recovery software and found it. I'm still in shock and extremely pleased it was recovered!

To answer the OP, hell no, I'm not putting anything important/sensitive on the 'cloud'.
