Can You Hook Up 360 & PS3 Together?

lets say you have x2 tv side by side one hooked up with ps3 the other 360. can i run a ethernet cable from both systems put in the same game and be able to play together?

what about the same scenario but without the ethernet cable connected on both of them but online?

sounds crazy but i had to ask
