Best performance mods for e60?

I used to have a 335i. Long story short I no longer have it and I'm a new member of 5post. I recently got the 550i but I don't know what parts to mod since I'm new to the 550i. My previous setup with my 335i was Riss racing DPs JB2R, Juicebox intake. I googled for cai and found these:

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sh.../bmw/550i.html

But I'm not sure if they're renown. Any more engine mods?

Please elaborate on #1 and #2 above. I pick up my 550i on Monday and I'd love to learn about inexpensive mods.

congrats!

1. if you open up the air filter, theres another air filter that contains charcoal which restricts air flow. you have to break off the tabs to remove. http://forums.e60.net/index.php?show...21796&hl=scoop

2. it directs airflow like ram air http://forums.e60.net/index.php?show...l=RPI+545+dyno

3. join e60.net

I just bought the Sprintbooster. It gives you a better throttle response, more like the old gas pedal attached to a cable. I read tons of reviews and everyone who's tried it is a believer. I'll let you know how it is when I get it on Monday. The lag from the 550i is so bad, I took my car in for warranty thinking it was a fuel delivery problem. They said they just reset my software. Still no good so I finally ordered the sprint booster. Www.sprintbooster.us is 299 and free overnight shipping.

You will definitely notice the difference with SprintBooster. I believe it is well worth the $300. I was running my M5 the other day, and felt it didn't feel as responsive, and looked down, and somehow I had switched off the SprintBooster. Put it back, and the fun began again.

Sprint booster arrived and installed! I love it. Sport mode is definitely the way to go for daily driving. Very responsive. Since my original post, I've also got the RPi ram scoop installed (that alone I noticed a difference), K&N drop in and also removed my charcoal filter. Just these basic mods have made my 550i a fun car to drive! FYI, the control knob on the V2 of the sprint booster can be taken off after initial control setting. I don't like having that module making my cab look like a ricer (been there done that when I was younger). I don't recommend racing mode because there is some jerkiness to that. All in all, I think the sprint booster is worth every penny!

As an alternative viewpoint, I tried a Sprintbooster and didn't care for it. I don't see it as a performance modification - it does nothing to increase the car's performance. It remaps the throttle so that 100% of the throttle control occurs in about ~30% of the pedal's travel. There is nothing left in the remaining ~70%...literally, pushing the pedal any further has absolutely no effect on the throttle because it's already pegged.

Personally, I felt like I was flooring the car at every stop sign, and that wasn't really a neat thing for me. So I sold mine.

The Sprintbooster certainly is a noticeable mod though, and I can see how some people might dig it. To each his own.

Ill be doing the carbon filter delete soon and ordering the RPI scoop for my 550 this week.
Also, are you able to reinstall the carbon filter if need be for service purposes? I'm wondering if the dealership will give you crap for removing it.

Just wondering if the RPI filter is worth getting along with the scoop kit or should I order the scoop alone and get a k&n filter?

Ok I'm similar in thinking this would not do much but I have an 08 550 and I can feel a difference, not earth shattering but definitely a difference in idle and shifting. It seems to be more responsive on acceleration. There is a slightly louder note to the engine "maybe I'm imagining that part". I spoke to a Dinan rep today at my local BMW dealership and asked him if he heard of this Mod. He said its a US based emissions thing and it will not hurt my car if removed. He did also mention that Dinans air intake system effectively eliminates the carbon filter along with a new intake box etc...

When you remove the filter you can clearly see why it can restrict the airflow. Without it there is much more room for flow.

just did the carbon filter delete today and cleaned out the air box. I used the air compressor to get rid of as much dirt/dust off the stock air filter.

Throttle response feels a bit better and theres a slight more grunt at the low RPM range. Im hoping its a bit better with the RPI scoop and the K&N filter.

Ordered the k&n at my local auto zone and should be here by mid day.

My carbon filter didnt have any clip on tabs. It looked like it was heated and the plastic corners were "plastic welded" together. They snapped off using a flat head screw driver.

Quick shot next to my Camaro project

The only problem left on the intake system is the accordian wrinkled piece right after the mass air fllow and the big box on the intake tube right before the throttle body.

That right there is hurting A LOT of flow.
