No question, Intercity Lines. Great experience, everyone was super impressed with their care for the vehicle. Was probably overkill for the Audi A4 I was shipping, but that's how I roll with my vehicles.

There are several full time dedicated car haulers, and these would be your best bet. Enclosed trailers are a real plus, factor in the cost of a FULL detail (you know, the "it'll buff out, I hope" kind) if you compare with cheaper rates for open trailers. Work with somebody that has their own truck and personnel, not brokers, not 'contractors for offloading' (that is nice talk for warm bodies they round up at a truckstop just before arriving - not the types you want to bring over and give a look around); probably not an issue if yours is a driver. If you do go open trailer, covers can be worse than bare - in the wind they act like a buffer wheel, and I've seen cars cut down to the bare metal by it. Also helps to verify a straight run - if they are shuffling cars on the truck it can get dicey. I'd rather wait an extra few weeks than have them moving the car truck-to-truck mid-country. A buddy of mine had a good experience using one of the major movers - they fill extra space in the moving trucks with a car sometimes - but he got lucky. If a load shifts, you are picking the lamps and dresser drawers off your hood.

Worst industry in the world! Never send a trucking co an online quote request, you'll have 50 trucking companies calling and texting you for weeks. Bunch of poorly speaking douche bag liars. Go with InterCity or Reliable, pay a bit more but you'll thank me later.

Intercity and Passport are excellent door to door covered services. DAS Car transport is a little cheaper and offers various options that might save you some money, like delivering the car to a terminal instead of door to door. They also offer covered, uncovered, etc.

Go pick up a copy of Hemmings News. Look in the ads for good quality shippers. Intercity Lines is in there. So is Horseless Carriage Carriers and Reliable Carriers, Inc are the ones that I remember as being very good.

i've shipped a about 5 cars with montway within the past 4 years, and while i've had minor communication issues with them, none of the cars were damaged etc. so i guess that is what is important.


also, i know for fact reliable carriers is good, they deliver all of the bentleys across the street from me. If i ever get an exotic, i'll go with them, see my pride and joy pull up in that bright orange truck.

just curious, how much more is shipping with a true carrier like reliable as compared to one of the brokers? double?

Intercity quoted me $1995 from SF to NYC per vehicle. Based on IRS calculations of 53.5 cents per mile.... it works out to be about a $400ish premium over driving myself.... I'm okay with that

interesting, regular broker is about 1200 closed coast to coast. (from what i've experienced)



these high end trucks are fitted with live tracking too right? id watch that all day.

I went with an individual owner/operator. Bought my X5 in Georgia and had it shipped to Texas. Single man operation means his only job is to move YOUR car to YOUR house. No taking it on and off of trucks a few times, or making multiple stops. The driver was constantly updating me and taking photos along the way. I was very pleased!
