Apple CarPlay is finally a free feature in BMW vehicles

Looks like the constant criticism has gotten to them... makes sense, as it was honestly a bit rude in a way to charge for a feature that many <$20k cars come with standard on cars that cost anywhere for $40k-$200k, hopefully the connection issues also start being solved.

I wonder if refunds will go to those who paid for it?

I believe you can get it via the ConnectedDrive Store on iDrive 6/7, not 100% sure.

I am having a hard time if I should use Apple Car Play or the default BMW way. Can someone give me some con/pro? I know I don't like the navigation layout of the Apply Car Play.

It's not clear if this is only for new car purchases going forward or if any CarPlay enabled models will also benefit. How sincere BMW really is remains to be seen.

This is great news. I literally just paid $300 (20 year) last week when my trial ends in January.

Unless your build has "Apple CarPlay Prep", you like will require some hardware - like WiFi antenna for sure. Then some coding.

I prefer the BMW layout over Apple CarPlay, standard map is much better than Apple Nav and you can read your message on the iDrive.

I think people are forgetting Apple CarPlay is a platform. You don't have to use Apple Maps. You can use any maps installed on your phone e.g. Waze, Google maps, etc.

This in it self makes the maps much more valuable as it is updated frequently. In addition, it takes in more robust traffic and crowd share data than the native BMW system.

I use it for music podcasts, whatever I want. I prefer the native navigation and map. And that's an easy press of "Map". You can use google maps too if you want via CarPlay. But it's great for texts, and for music, IMO. I prefer CarPlay.
