Double champ Haakinen once said that no one remembers when you're second though with Ferrari right now that means a lot to stay ahead of Merc.

There was no way Carlito would get past Chas so he dropped back to defend from the back to preserve tyres and constructors points.

This underfueling was very strange to me and indeed Mika Haakinen has come on to say the same, it's just unbelievable that someone at RB got it wrong but we remind ourselves that we are only human

I think it had to do with the track drying faster than they anticipated, so that 6 lap or so stint to set a good time was driven faster than anticipated so you use more fuel.
I think the differences between ferrari and RB are so small during qualifying that every liter of fuel they carry extra counts in the final qualifying time.

but in the end they obviously calculated the wrong amount.

IMHO . I'm pretty sure it was all about weight saving during the qualifing .

In other words : 1 milliliter = 1 gram . Yes that's how they see it ..

RB planned the amount of fuel for 5 laps ,but in the 5th lap they noticed that the track was suddenly dryer and thus faster .

So , they went for that 6th lap and MAX ran purple in the 2 first sectors and was 0.8 sec. faster than Charlie ..
That 6th lap was a pole lap but also a fuel gamble , the rest we know ...

they didn't expect max to drive so fast. not their fault. someone else is not human.
