The latest story is seeing Big Papi getting shot. However, there are Americans dying in the DR from drinking from the mini-bar. This is really fucked up and I hope they find out who's killing people. This is definitely not a place I will be going to anytime soon.

I read about this. It’s been on Apple News the last few weeks. It seemed like every day there’s a new article on it. Definitely would avoid the DR like the plague. It’s scary that there are so many deaths within months of each other.

Agreed. Stayed at the Bahia in Punta Cana about ~6 years ago (same hotel named in the article, just different side of the island).

You don't even feel safe while on the resort, much less, venturing outside the gates. Plus the alcohol and food is real shitty.

Overall, DR is a dump; avoid at all costs.

I went to punta Cana a few months ago and had a bad experience. Would no go back as is but many articles since then about rapes, deaths, murders, shootings, and robberies. Plenty of other places in the world with nice weather and beaches I would rather go.

Went to Punta Canta about a decade ago. Won’t be going back, it wasn’t anything special and there are much nicer places in the Carib.

funny this thread exist as I was just at a neighbor's party last Saturday and there's a group of 4 couples going to the DR. some of them were joking about the whole situation. one literally said, "I can't wait to go as I heard it's to die for?" one couple even said "I hope ticket prices go down?" i'm like WTF?

I have none, nor do I need one. I watch the news early in the morning and in the evening...having served in law enforcement for 30 yrs I tune out anything that has to do with shootings...too many to keep track. Thank you for your useless advice.

I have a wedding to attend in DR at the end of August. One of my friends is due to return from there today, he had a bad experience as well but it was related to customer service.

That is the scary thing, most people shouldn't feel like they are in any danger drinking out of their mini fridge in an upscale hotel... but here we are.

They said they had a great time, but after seeing all of this, it really freaked them out.
