2006 530xi Transmission Fault

Hello found a local 530xi with 130K miles owner (2nd) says all is fine except when cruising at highway speeds for awhile the "Transmission Fault" lights up and it kicks the trans out of highest gear (6th) then he pulls over and turns the car off and restarts it after a minute and all is fine. He says it does it every few months and never city stop and go driving. I read about solenoids and the mechatronic packs but not sure if this is related. What can this be?
