That still doesn't touch the fastest speeding ticket given in the United States.

From wikipedia:
The fastest speeding ticket in the world allegedly occurred in May 2003 in Texas. It was supposedly 242mph in a 75mph zone. The car was a Swedish-built Koenigsegg, which was involved in the San Francisco to Miami Gumball 3000 Rally.

thanks SoYank....I think I do remember something like this happening during the Gumball Rally, but not how fast this guy was going. That's nuts. He must have gotten some jail time for that.

Important word here is "allegedly" no proof or fact as of right now, the other cases are documented in court fillings. Even Wikipedia is looking for a citation to back it up.

thats what i was thinking, there was absolutely no chance of a cop EVER catching that car, and he wouldn't even be brought to jail for evading the police because the cop would have had 0 chance of getting his lights on in time

Most civilian helicopters can not go that fast, then you have an issue of identification, do you think some local TX Highway Patrol had any idea make of the car. Think about the radio call the officer made, just saw a ______ color sport car blow by me. How many sport cars are in the Gumball rally.

The driver claims he was arrested and release on bail, if that happen it would be in print plus he would have served some jail time, which did not seem to occur.

I think the guy was embarrassed he forgot to put the oil cap on and almost blew up the engine and it took him some time to locate a cap so he made up this story

Ya you guys are right....didn't they have something like this on the original Cannonball Run movie with Burt Reynolds? Somewhere in the 70's I think. I believe it was a lambo that outran a hellicopter.

well doing that speed in a 70 zone you'd have to stop sometime with traffic, and whatever else might be there.

Assuming a full 20 gallon tank, at 242mph, he'd run out of gas in about 15 minutes, but cover about 60 miles.
