Intermittent Overheating
I had the water pump and all the cooling hoses and thermostat replaced at the beginning of 2024 and have had no issues until now
My 2008 535i will drive perfectly for about 10 minutes before I get the overheat warning on the dash and it goes into limp mode. Using an OBD temp and voltage gauge, I can see the car throws the warning at about 248 degrees Fahrenheit.. but if I turn the car off and back on again (even while the vehicle is still in motion) the temperature will drop back down to 205-210 in a matter of 10 seconds. Only for it to happen again a couple miles down the road.. I’ve noticed that my voltage isn’t stable while driving though.. ranging from 13 volts dropping down to like 11.9.. and when the voltage drops near the 12.4 mark is usually when it starts overheating. I have a new voltage regulator coming today to see if that will help at all but I’m running out of ideas.. I just replaced the temp sensor too, no luck. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, it’s my first bmw and BOY do I have a lot to learn! |
